With my car in a storage unit due to the fire I have no way to put a trickle charger on it. It is about to get wicked cold and the car barely started yesterday...so I was wondering if I was to use the jump devices that plug into the cig lighter would that work?

Not familiar with any jump devises that use the cig lighter but in general it is always recommended to avoid high current jump devises at the risk of frying the ECU or PCM. At least with Gen 1/2.

So what fire are you talking about? Didn't your Gen 2 get totaled and you bought a Gen 4? Is them something to this story that I'm missing?

I would guess that given your recent experience, removing the battery and putting it on a charger in your living quarters (or a buddy's) would not be an option...

I'm gone for 6 months to a year and my car sits a long time. I disconnect the battery cables. There's a jumper post under the hood, convenient for the Gen2 and earlier because the battery access. I have a battery tender quick disconnect permanently connected to the battery so I can easily get the tender hooked up and changing.

Typically these self storage units have electrical outlets, I'm surprised yours doesn't. Also, is there not a light fixture? Like, you enter the storage unit and flip on a light bulb? You can get screw in bulb accessory with the outlet, hook your tender up to it.
