The Snakes are slithering at the Mid Ohio Race Course this weekend , with 12 of the 33 entrants running Vipers ( 3 are GTSs ). Mike McCann leads all the SnakeCharmers with a 6th spot on the qualifying podium. He is followed by Tommy Archer and Bob Woodhouse in 7th and 8th , repectively. The fact that there are three drivers in the top 10 starting positions , bodes well for a strong finish from one of our boys. It will be amazing if this factory built racecar, that is 1/2 to 1/4 the price of most of it's competitors, can again maintain a strong showing from it's gang of mainly privateers. The big show is going to be available on Speed Channel this Sunday at 1 pm EST -- about 2 hours after the race conclusion. So make sure you have a cold one in hand and sit down and watch a real sports show tommorrow.

6th Mike McCann 1:28.737
7th Tommy Archer 1:28.902
8th Bob Woodhouse 1:28.988
14th Jim McCann 1:29.532
18th Stan Wilson 1:30.208
20th Rich Marziale 1:30.653
21 Tim Wiens 1:30.678
23rd Sonny Whelen 1:31.053
27th Lenny Diller 1:32.523
28th Mike Hartley 1:32.924
31st Warren Diller 1:33.541
33rd Adel Elsayed 1:34.576

Not to diminish McCann's skills but usually Archer is the lead Viper. Did something happen in qualifying to drop Archer back?

Congrats to all Viper entrants. I'll try to find a tv with Speed.

McCann has done very well in selected races and no one would deny that Tommy is the consumate pro. What I firmly believe this shows , is that Viper Days, and the Viper Racing League, is a viable test bed and some great drivers will come out of this feeder series. With basically 2/10ths of a second seperating McCann to Woodhouse, it sures makes one do a credibility check for the Comp Coupe Privateers. Heck, look at where one of the Cadillacs ended up, and it just shows that we have some talent with our crop of Snake Pilots.

Kudos to all, but I don't know of anything to take away from any of these showings.

Tommy Archer ended up in 4th ,again, and Mike McCann settled into 9th spot ( good run after going off course earlier ). Woody got punted in the butt, and was called into the pits ( black flagged ), for leaving debris all over the track. He motored back out after 5 laps, with only 4th gear intact, and finished 25th. Not where he would have liked, after a strong qualifying run.

Kinda cool that there were 13 Vipers out of the 34 cars that ran at Mid Ohio. Would have been a boring race without the Snakes.

Tim Wiens, member of the 3R Racing team ( Archer, McClure, Wiens ), blew up huge at turn 1, and the press release even noting it, stating there would be no Mosquito problem at Mid Ohio this weekend. It was a huge grenade, and it covered the corner causing a few more cars to collect each other.

I saw the blow up. Have they found out exactly what happened yet?

4th aint bad at all for a privateer going up against the big money of Audi and Caddy. I'm still perplexed as to why the Vette girls aren't bitching at GM for leaving them high and dry for a retiree's car.
