Howdy all! Finally getting around to fixing my window regulator door panel is off, window stopper pulled, and the clip that holds the white bit to the window is off. I don't want to manhandle the glass too much because it's glass, but it doesn't seem to be pulling. I'm assuming it's because the black knob that accepts the matal clip is still living inside the (broken) white plastic of the window regulator.Is it safe to push on the glass to get the black knob out of the white bit? Picture for clarity.

Look for bolts clamping on the window. Pulled 3 of the 4 regulators on my other car to rebuild and they had bolts. You will need to move the glass up/down to the access holes. I will need to do this on the passenger side of the Viper. Was going to do it this weekend but other stuff popped up.

Thank you both for the help!

It started raining so I had to pack up and leave finishing the project for another day. From what I've gathered from other forum posts, I will likely have to take the regulator out in order to work on it, which (according to the service manual) is a fairly labor intensive job that my rudimentary tool set won't quite be able to handle.

Interestingly, the window is working now. after pulling the metal pin, whatever was binding up the shuttle (white bit) freed, so now the window will go down and up on its own power. This is obviously not a permanent solution, as the motor sounds labored on the up-swing, but it will work until I finish my exams and can schedule time at my local self-service garage.

Getting the regulator out is really not that big of a job. I had one out and replaced, door panel back on in less than half a day. I marked the rear track with a marks-a-lot where the upper stop went, and re-aligning the window went pretty smooth.

You're probably right. I just got scared when the manual said that I need to remove the door popper button. But since that's electronic and not mechanical, it probably isn't a huge deal. If the rains hold off today I should be able to make some progress

Ask and you shall receive. I decided that I had the time to fix it correctly today, took the door apart again, and finally got the window out of the clip. Then, in my infinite wisdome, drove to the auto parts store (won't say which one because they seem to be making people angry these days) to find the right sized wrench/socket to take the door release button out. No such luck. And then came the biblical rain. So now I'm parked under a gas station. On the plus side, I was able to work the regulator out of the door. So now I just need to fix it , reassemble the door, and be on my way.

Final update: Waited for the rain to stop then swung out to the next best auto parts store, and borrowed a pair of vicegrips and two pairs of pliers. An hour or so of fumbling with the regulator and I was able to get everything fixed.

For posterity;
You do NOT need to remove the window in order to fix/extract the regulator.
You do NOT need to cut any part of the old regulator, as I have seen in some other posts. Just carefully bend the capture tab at the top end of the regulator by the wheel and the white clip should slide right out.
You do NOT need to disassemble any part of the regulator beyond removing the white clip. You should be able to pull on opposite ends of the wire, and the captured springs by the motor will give you enough room to pull the wire tabs into the white clip.

Did that on Sunday. Do not have my tools here so just using what is available. I used a pair of adjustables to loose the nut. The sound shield on the plastic sheet just breaks into pieces.

Yes but you need to hold the window up until you remove from the track and let it down.

Lots of cleaning old grease out.

Why didn't you just buy the vice grips and pliers? :lol: :confused: You'll use them many more times and it's not like they're expensive. So strange.

I might have been brought up differently, but I'm not going to spend $30 on three very common hand tools--especially during yard sale season
