What\'s the best way to jack up a viper for maintainance/work?

What is the best way to jack up or lift a viper for working on it? I'm mainly interested in doing headers and cat replacement, but for other work as well.

I don't have the ability to install a permanent lift, so that option is out. What are my options?

Thanks in advance!

A good floor jack and four heavy duty tall jack stands. For a good high lift jack you will need a few boards to pull up on to get the jack under.

Go to Sears and buy their aluminum jack, about $150, better quality and lifting capacity than the $100 Costco ones. Fits under without boards.
Jack points are on sides, behind front wheel and in front of rear wheel. You'll see a small c shaped steel weld, jack there.
Position stands on square tubing part of frame.

Thanks for the info guys.

Thats just what I needed. Well other than a link to a site where I can buy an inflatable outdoor hydralic lift for less than $20. :bonk:

If you get the hydraulic jack, it is far easier to insert the jack from the rear and place the pad on the frame rail where you see the reinforced area. It is not a bad idea to get the rubber inserts for the jack, Eastwood sells them. If you are changing tires you can get both wheels off the ground by lifting on one side.

The jacking points("C pads) are different than where you would set the jack stands. The shop manual has a sketch that shows all the lifting points.

Jack B -- Do you have a web address for "Eastwood"?
Re: What\'s the best way to jack up a viper for maintainance/work?

Since we are on this topic, could you guys please critique my current method?

1. I drive up on 2x4 (only to put my so called low profile jack)

2. Jack up ONE SIDE at a time at the jacking points - is this ok? The car is obvisously seriously crooked when I do this. Or is there a way to jack up the entire front or the back? JackB - can you scan the jack points for us? Can I use any padded material?

3. Rather than placing jack stands, I put Rhino ramps for added security and room to work under the engine.

Thanks!!!

It would be a great help if someone could post where to place jack stands, for those of us who haven't bought service manuals yet.

With the Corvette, it's possible to span the back frame with a piece of 2X6 and lift the whole rear. I see the lift points front and rear, but no idea where to put the stands.

TIA

I found a link on the Morg http://www.viperclub.org/menus/index_how_illup.htm which shows jack stand locations, in addition to directions for removing the side sills.
