What do you think of this car?

Guys, I'm new to vipers and am thinking about buying this car. The guy has a reserved price of $65,000. Do any of you think it is worth the money?

Viper on Ebay

The car is in Thousand Oaks CA. Are there any Alley menbers who live close by that could look at the car for me?

Thanks for your help and opinions.

no, it has a salvage title.
$65 grand for that list of mods is a good price. My only reservation is that it is a 97. I do not know your experience with cars, but that is quite a monster to start out with. You could find a newer mostly stock Viper and upgrade it as you wanted. This is not a daily driver IMO. If you are looking for a car you can drive alot especially in Kali you may wanna start with a milder car. :twocents:

looks like a nice guy though

ps - did not see the salvage part. Good spot Craig.
Is that Carrol Shelby standing next to it /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

Fast if you want me to check it out send me a PM and I'll give you my cell #..I am in Thousand oaks once a week on business.

Do you know what tuner did the Mods?? (Looks like it might be SVS )

Keep in mind that if it is a Salvaged title as "Hawk Eye Craig " pointed out :thumb: ..You will have a VERY tough time getting financing.

By the way, what are the rims in the first photo that look like chromed Z06 wheels? I see the HRE's in the other photos.

Manny
Craig201,

Thanks for spotting the title. The guy is new at Ebay (has never listed a car). The car does not have a salvage title. I checked both carfax and autocheck. When I asked the owner about the title, he explained that the bank still holds the title. /images/graemlins/yes

Any other thoughts?

First set of rims are HRE 541's...second set are 546's...Is it pink???
J Dawg,

That's Smokey Yunick next to the car.

Yes, I know it's a monster-- Which makes me want it all the more.

I am new to vipers, but I have a background in fast cars. My last was an LS6 Chevelle which had what looked like a stock motor from the outside but internally was bored, stroked, roller cammed, etc. to the tune of 422 RWHP (about the same as a stock viper). But I got tired of adjusting the valves, rebuilding the carburetor every year and decided I wanted a car which was fuel injected, had air conditioning, and was faster than my Chevelle. You can't upgrade to a car which is slower than your last car! /images/graemlins/dude

BTW: I thought this car was mild compared with the vipers on the Alley!

Bill Wright Racing, AZ, did the engine. Does anyone on the alley have experience with them?

Thanks for the offer to look at the car. I may be in LA on business next week and can stop by myself. I will be sure to keep everyone updated. /images/graemlins/yes

Guys, I just figured out how to post a reply with a quote. /images/graemlins/thumb1 Like I said, I'm a newbe here.

Manny, I think you are right about the wheels. The ones which come with the car are the new HREs.

No! It's red. I may be new but do you think I'd even consider a PINK viper??? /images/graemlins/down

Well now that the title checks out I'd still say it's a bit high. You're 2 weeks too late, Smokin was thinking of unloading his heffner car for the same $$ and it's a much nicer, and newer car.

I'd say 55-58K tops

Sounds good man. Since you may be out that way it would certainly be an interesting car to look at. The motor is huge and probably has a big cam as well, so just be sure it is tolerable to you and everything operates good.

This car is definetly not mild no matter where you are. /images/graemlins/drive

The car has 618RWTQ and 585RWHP. Does anyone know how much power the Venom 650s put out?

Ron
Guys, Thanks for all the input. I found out a little more information. Please take this into consideration and let me know what you think about the price.

The car was a daily driver from 1997 to 2002 when the owner decided to use it a a marketing tool for his high performance business. He and his corporation decided to try to make the car into a display car for the SEMA and PRI shows in 2002-2003.

To do this, they started in 2002 and took the car apart from the frame (or took as much of the body off as they could.) With the body parts off, they cleaned the frame and put new suspension, front and rear, new brakes, wheels and tires, new (ultrics SP?) half shafts. They replaced fenders, door sills, hood, facia, headlights, taillights, and all the stuff that had been nicked or worn over the 30,000 miles the car had on it. They pulled the engine and sent it to be built.

With all the new body parts, the car was shipped to Fat Alberts, AZ, for new paint. I have not talked to Fat Alberts yet, but I imagine between the new body panels and a good paint job, you could spend $20k. What do you think?

For the engine, they went to Bill Wright, AZ. Bill builds motors for top fuel cars and boats and offshore boats. I spoke with Bill about the motor and as the ad states the guy used really good parts in the engine, Velasco crank, Oliver rods, etc. I know a lot about engines and all the parts they used are first quality. I also asked about the "Top Secret" cam grind. Actually, they told me it was a custom Crower grind with 235 degrees duration at .050 and .550 lift. This is a pretty mild cam but they did that to make the car streetable...that is the AC works fine, the power brakes work... you can easily drive this on the street. I asked the folks at Bill Millers how much was spent on the motor and he said "about $37,000, not including the heads, the owner supplied the CNC GTS-R heads." So while the owners prices on the other stuff might be inflated, the price on the motor was not.

For the interior, they put in some high dollar sound system-- I'm not really into those things but I understand at the SEMA and PRI shows they wanted to impress. They also added a 5-point cage and all new carpet, seats, and headliner. They also had a company which does acoustic insulation work add sound blocking material throughout the car where ever possible. Again, while I'm not into Boom Boom stereos, I do appreciate a quiet ride. The owner tells me that with the windows up, the car is very quiet-- I'll have to see about that.

The owner did dyno the car at 618RWTQ and 585RWHP. He has the dyno sheets. He also has a video (he is going to email to me) of him at the strip with a run of 10.44 at 135mph. Do any of you know if the RWHP numbers and the drag strip numbers seem to correlate? I don't know how much power it takes to run 10.44?

All this work on the car has been done within 18 months. Since the "frame off", the car only as about 1200 miles. Any more thought about the price?

What would it cost to have a Hennessey 700R put on a stock 97 GTS?

Any comments would be appreciated.
