OK - I am a man of few words, so here it is:

The 2003 Viper Nationals was one of the top 10 Viper events that I have attended since I have been around Vipers. Period.

That includes all 7 VOI's that I have attended. It was that good.

Thanks again to my new bro's in OH: Suloff, Terry, Calvin, Chic, Denny, Rich, Kenny, Gerald (MN) and everyone else there.

If there was to be a VOI steering committee comprised of people who know how to show a good time, these guys should be that committee. They KNOW how to put on a great event.

It was great finally meeting John in person, as well as everyone else. The Ohio Viper Club is a first class organization and provides the best bang for the buck of any mod that costs only $100 per year.

Snake - Dr. Roof, Ward and Suloff are working to get something going for a drag series. I think the level of motivation is now at critical mass. Hopefully the next drag race event date will be posted soon!

The owner of the SC creampuff is taking his car to Larry Macedo now. No doubt Larry will make it stronger with new pistons, rod bolts, etc. as well as more powerful!

Preshant the Houston VCA President was also working on a drag series but ever sense he got the night auditors job at the Hotel and having to sell his Viper for Baby food he has dropped from site. We all told him having kids would put an end to his night pimpin and now Viper-less I know he is rethinking what went wrong. I guess he is hissstory in the Viper world. If you hit the grocery store early you will catch him pushing one of those kids baskets in the shape of a car with a blank stare off into space. /images/graemlins/freak3.gif

Rohn...That's me in my RT...and John is in the SRT. (You knew this!)

But for the record...we both had clutch issues...I don't think John could even got out of first on that pass...and I couldn't get into third, I tried three times, and then shut it down...I ordered a new clutch yesterday...

Rumor has it there is going to be a drag event in Texas later this year...I will bring my RT, with a fresh clutch, and a 55 gallon drum of whoopass, to run the posers who couldn't make it out to the Ohio event...This goes for even you mister, and no "proxy" drivers!!! /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

John was in the SRT-10 with the top up and Gerald was in the RT-10 with no top.

However, Gerald said he burnt up his clutch and forgot to turn on his nitrous, so he didn't get to have the exquisite pleasure of being beaten by the only Yellow Viper that raced at Viper Nationals. It would have been a good race, too, since I had a fuel pump that didn't deliver enough fuel and I had to shift at only 5000 RPMs.

Quite a few of us - John, Gerald, Tony, myself, and probably a few others had some mechanical problems that caused us to race at much less than our full potential. But wait 'til next year!

But we all had too much fun this year. /images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Hey...That is top secret information!!!
Actually, the truth is V10 MOJO disabled the switch - he's such a joker! :thumb:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I was offered to move up in the line of Vipers because the person (who will remain nameless) was afraid to race John because they were sure that John would embarrass him. I knew I didn't have a chance against John because I had to shift at 5000 RPM to save my pistons from a fuel starved early death and I was set to race Chic's Gen I stock RT-10, which I thought I might be able to beat with my Roe Supercharger short shifting, so I declined to race John. It ended up my race with Chic was extremely close because I fell asleep at the tree and gave him a one second head start. I ran one second faster than him, but I thought he still beat me by a foot. Chic said I beat him by a foot.

SB,

I think I know why you couldn't shift. I had this happen during one event and this is how I got around it. First I realized what was happening to the clutch plate during the burnout, I like to get my tires hot, not just clean them off. Once I started limiting the clutch plate exposure to a minimum I was able to shift down the track. There is the chance that once down the track when you shift into 4th your clutch may have spun costing you valuable time anyway. Anytime I have a clutch issue, let the car cool between each pass and run with a small burnout.....you might make it down. Just my .02

Ouch, flame me if you will, but I must vent.....

1.) Yes, I own a Viper.

2.) No, I did not bring it to the event. Not to make excuses, but I'm in the middle of some mods...

3.) I was VERY disappointed in the number of Vipers that drag raced. Maybe I was expected too much, but it seemed only 10 or so different Vipers ran on Saturday - give or take.

4.) I kept low key at the event, since I did not bring the Viper on the trip. Kind'a feel like a chump talking Vipers, when your is at home.

5.) The people I did talk to were very nice, as I knew they would be.... But to be brutally honest, I didn't come to the event to make friends.... I came to see all the tuners run there beasts and kick major arse.... This would help me decide on future mods, etc...

6.) Overall, the event was great.... BUT I MADE THE TRIP TO SEE ALL THE DIFFERENT MODED VIPERS RUN.... DLM, HEFFNER, ROE, HENNESSEY, BTR, etc.... I was expecting to see everyone, since this was the Viper nationals. Kind of let down when I was expecting 50 or so Vipers to race, and only 10 or so ran. And the only tuners I noticed were the Roe camp (Larry M., I think) and John Hennessey (SRT10 650). PROPS TO THESE GUYS FOR MAKING THE TRIP! I noticed a few nitrous Vipers as well...

** Like a said, maybe I was expecting too much. I realize people have other commitments... I just really wanted to see/feel/hear all the different packages available to Viper owners, or at least most....

All you can do is invite them. They have to decide to put up or shut up. Good Luck to Tom in Columbus.
I think the tuners are concerned about taking a hit on the track. When you play all your chips, there is only one winner.
