Has anyone installed (or tried to install) Solenoid operated cut-outs into your Viper exhaust system?

Is it possible to have a pair welded into the exhaust pipes (post-headers & pre- Cats)?

Would you recommend doing this?

Any Pros & Cons you want to share?

I know one thing, it would be LOUD! I just fired mine up after installing Belanger headers with no exhaust piping hooked up yet and it literally shook the house. It seemed much louder than I remember my old V8's sounding with open headers, perhaps because they dump straight out the sides of the car rather than underneath it. I was thinking about trying to idle down the road to a muffler shop to get the exhaust pipe welded on, but there was no way I would make it past the cops.

Besides the out-of-control noise volume, it seems like it would keep tripping your O2 sensor light if you have a newer Viper, though SIMs might take care of that.

It would be fun to uncork it on occasion. I know there are electronic cut-outs that you can switch inside the car. Never heard of it being done on a Viper though. Also not sure where you could dump the exhaust without it causing any problems.

They sound great on V8's....I'm putting some QTEC electric cutout's on my Trans Am. But I don't know how good they would sound on the viper....Maybe I'll have to find out. It may just be obnoxious though...just the way I like it.

Yes, electronic Stainless Steel Cutouts/Solenoids with controls to operate from inside my 1995 RT is the idea. The obvious intent for this feature is for added power at the immediate time I want it /images/graemlins/drive - not to be used through neighborhoods.
[ Unless this one young MF'er /images/graemlins/upyours in a Firebird who lives a few blocks from me keeps waking our family up late a night by accelerating around my corner /images/graemlins/furious -- I will pay the SOB back at 5:00am every morning as necessary!! ] ;-)


Anyhow, ...some interesting questions for me to have answered would be:

1) How much power (RWHP/RWTorque) could be anticipated by adding these cutouts, while using just the stock headers?

2) How much power (RWHP/RWTorque) could be anticipated by adding these cutouts, while using improved headers (i.e., Belangers, etc...)?

Thanx in advance to anyone/all who can shed some light on this. :cheers:

Wow.. this is an old thread i am trying to dig up. So, has anyone successfully installed cut-outs in their GTS? I've had Borlas on mine for the last couple of years. After trying several things to get rid of the drone, I am getting them off my car !!! I am sure many have the Borlas and are liking them and dealing with them just fine. I get a headache everytime I drive it more than 15 miles.

Just dropped the car at Musclehead. He is going to "try" and install some cut-outs with the stock setup. Not sure if it is possible, but I know Keith will try his best! If anyone has done it successfully, please respond.

BTW, what happend to the snow???

The cutouts were quick time, but they ended up being crap. TT RT (Joseph Dell) has them too and has apparently had some good luck with some other brand. Maybe he can send you some pics because I don't have any.

It'll sound badass as long as you have the turbos to restrict the exhaust.

Without em' it'll make you ears bleed!
