Re: United States Grand Prix 2004 Pics...

I will repost this one within a series of others but I wanted everyone to see this ASAP...

This was taken seconds after the +-200 MPH impact with the outer wall. I just happen to look that way and saw the whole thing. The car came to a halt right in front of us. Notice the visor is up (from the impact I suspect) but Ralf didn't move for over a minute then very slowly he raised his arm and started moving his arms. It took FOREVER for anyone to come to his aid.

My wife and I suspect he was knocked out and before he started moving it was upsetting to see him this way. Everyone around us was dead silent and when he did eventually move...a huge sigh of relief came over all of us. A very sobering moment.

Very cool pics, Toby! :thumb:

So Ralf ended up right in front of you? It was an eternity until rescue got to him. What if he were dying like Ayrton?

Thank you.

We were in section A penthouse and yes...he was right below us. Later tonight I will post a full series of pics and video of the accident. It was not pleasant to see this happen.

Here are a few more of the pits on Thursday...

Re: United States Grand Prix 2004 Pics...

A few shots of the Porsche Cup cars. These cars were VERY fast, expensive, and driven by some of the worlds top drivers.

Re: United States Grand Prix 2004 Pics...

Starting with the pic above these are a few shots of Ralf Schumacher.

The first pic is signs of life...he was just starting to move his head in this pic and the others are the Doc's etc. trying to help. (finally)

The third pic was taken on purpose...it shows (sorta) Michael slowing and looking right. He did this on every lap. I read Michael was very upset and didn't know if he could continue racing but since they were under caution for a while...it gave him some time to settle down and think about finishing the race. /images/graemlins/sad

No, Chuck, that's where the visiting NASCAR officials watch Hee Haw until the race is over.

Call BR-549 and tell somebody who gives a damn!

(I tell you, Hee Haw was NOTHING without the blondes in the daisy-dukes.)

Re: United States Grand Prix 2004 Pics...

Update on Ralf...

Ralf Schumacher set for lengthy lay-off
Marc Gene to take over Ralf's BMW Williams

It could be some time before Ralf races again

German driver Ralf Schumacher will miss Sunday's French Grand Prix after failing to recover in time from a high-speed crash during the United States Grand Prix, his doctors said Wednesday.

He might also miss the Great Britain, German, Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix and not be fit until the September 12 Italian GP at Monza after doctors at the Bad Nauheim clinic where he was being treated said he had two fractured vertebrae and needed between eight and 12 weeks' rest.

The BMW Williams driver suffered a horrific collision on June 20 when his car spun out of control and slammed backwards into a wall at 300kmh in Indianapolis before coming to a standstill in the middle of the racetrack.

"There'd be nothing worse than coming back too soon. Ralf has all the time to get back to 100 percent," said the driver's agent Willi Weber.

Schumacher 'celebrated' his birthday Wednesday aware that he could be out of Formula One for three months. "To be honest, I imagined my birthday would be rather different," the 29-year- old said on his website. "But so be it. What's happened has happened. The injury is worse than feared. I have to get through it."

The German driver, who stands ninth in the championship with 12 points and who won the 2003 race around the Magny-Cours circuit, will be replaced by Spanish test driver Marc Gene in France.

Schumacher is negotiating with Toyota for the 2005 season and his move from Williams was originally inteded to be announced at Silverstone on July 11th.
