tire performance....

I noticed that tire rack shows two available tires for my 96 GTS...

Michelin YR rated
Pilot Sport Front: 275/40-17 $290
Rear: 335/35-17 $331

= +-1200.00

and

Dunlop ZR rated
SP Sport 8000 Front: 275/40-17 $168
Rear: 335/35-17 $254

= +-850.00

are the Pilots worth the extra price for a GTS that will mostly be driven with a light foot?

If you buy tires for looks your priorities are in the wrong place.

I have P-Zero's and they are a great street tire. If I was to race, I would buy the appropriate tires.

If I was a cheap bastard I would buy them cum-ho tires. Hell, might as well go to Pep-Boys then. /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

Get the Pilot's if you don't mind buying frenchie tires and want what was designed for the Viper.

I'm not saying the P-Zero's are a BAD tire at all. I'm just saying they look shit on a Viper. They don't look they fit. :twocents:

I guess the question still stands.... are they worth it over the Dunlop tires?

I am sure the Dunlop tires are as good or better than my original tires that are on there now.

It's not really about the money..it's just getting what you pay for...you know what I mean?

Hey, I am a cheap bastard, and picked up some Kumho for half the price and three times the stick.

These things allow you to lay waste to higher HP cars off the line, the traction is insane!!

The GTS I rented in Vegas ran the Dunlop and found it to be similar to Pilots in a day of driving Toby, if being shod with "other than OEM" doesn't bother you I say go for it!

Dunlop makes some really good slicks in Viper sizes - pretty reasonable too. Buy them and tell us how you like them!

Thanks guys..I think I will go with a set of Dunlops this winter when I take these good but dry/hard factory ones off.

I know this thread is old, but Toby - Did you end up getting the Dunlops before you sold your GTS?

Kumho's are great... half the wear, but also half the price. And much better grip (at least dry weather). My concern is how badly it kills the paint from kicking up rocks. Anyone run Kumho's with the 3M clearguard? Does it help?

$1300 for Pilots, $850 for Dunlops, $650 for Kumhos.

Thoughts anyone? I'm preparing for my GTS switch /images/graemlins/smiles

I did not purchase a new set. I think I would have gone with the Pilots though.

Let us resurrect this thread. I too am interested to know if anyone has any "true" experience in owning (and driving a Viper with )the Dunlop SP8000?

If so, are the Pilots worth the $$$ difference??
