Rolled up to an SL55 a few days ago while giving a buddy a ride in the Viper. Going about 20-25 towards a red light with the the SL55 on the right. It was one of the new SC ones. Anyway before we stop the light turns green and the SL55 nails it. I'm in 2nd gear so I do too.

Long story short....it's over by 3rd gear...although that thing seemed reasonably quick for a luxo car.

I would have had to eat crow if my buddy and seen me lose.....yuck!

The SL55s are pretty quick from 60-155MPH with bags of HP and TQ, but as mentioned, the SL55 weighs almost 1000lbs more than the Viper does.
It has the advantage of an automatic tranny (less skill needed) but has traction control on stock cars which get in the way of full-on launches.

Eating crow is like eating your words or eating your hat. Terms that describe being publically embarassed.

Nice Kill!

The SL55's are SWEET cars! Unfortunatly, I cannot afford the $125k+ price tag and must stick with my CLK. If I want to drive fast, I have the Viper.

Those cars are sweet! I would love to have one as a daily /images/graemlins/smile.gif I've raced a friend's SL55 stock vs my Viper with headers/tubes/exhaust from a 2nd gear roll and just killed it. He then puts on a smaller pulley/chip/exhaust and wanted to run again. It was faster than before. He got the jump in 2nd with his traction and pulled about 1 car. By end of 3rd gear I was ahead by a car. He was shocked!!!

Yeah, and if you bolt on a Roe supercharger he will NEVER be able to catch up.
Not that it matters because you are already faster. /images/graemlins/supergrin.gif
For being so comfortable and luxurious, the SL55, E55 and S600 are deceptively fast cars. But they do have a LOT of weight to carry around.
