I thought I remember a thread a long time ago talking about modifying the stock air box buy removing the rain-guard and letting the air in unrestricted.

Does this actually do any good?

Thanks.

Yes! Anytime you remove air restrictions it will pick up a small amount of HP. I've seen back-to-back dyno tests showing a pick up about 8 HP with the rain baffle removed (Heffner Airbox).

Thanks Gary.

I assume then I cut the baffle out and then cover the opening with?...

(suggestions)

My first thought would be to cut a piece of metal or thick plastic, fit it into the opening, fiberglass it smooth/flush,sand it and paint it.

What if you get caught in a sudden rain storm without the rain baffle? Does it just soak the K&N's. Any damage to the engine possible??

THE HORROR! DON'T DO THIS EVAR!!!

not worth the potential problems for 10 horses. The rain baffle is there for a reason. Is a <2% gain worth it?
