Serious Eric\'s BBee GTS - Not Pretty!!

Well, unfortunately, Serious Eric has the undesirable distinction of being the first "exotic car owner" whom I personally know, that has graced the pages of "Wrecked Exotics" web site. Ouch!!! Eric, glad you're doing well buddy!!!

Yeah, Eric's doing well now, physically! Hopefully Eric will jump into this thread shortly. From what I understand, Eric spun around (on the track) and violently smacked the wall on the drivers side about 2 months ago. :ugh:

Emotionally,... is Eric well???? Numerous people might say he was never well. /images/graemlins/supergrin.gif Personally,... I say he is. :thumb: Eric might even be over the loss of this beautiful BumbleBee GTS??? Only Eric will be able to say for sure. (?) Wow! I had no idea it'd gotten in to Wrecked Exotics. That first pic doesn't do the damage justice. It makes it look like the passenger side was OK, which it wasn't. The car was bent in a 'U' shape and the hood had pushed around into the door. The hood itself was totally screwed, the roof is crumpled and the windshield is split along with the windshield frame being pushed over so far that the passenger's door had an inch gap around it.

Poor ol' bee. Damn I loved that car.

Shit. Really hurts again to see that. My daughter just saw it and she cried. None of 'em had ever seen it before this.

TWS, College Station Tx. More or less stock GTS on Pilot Sports, 70 degrees and sunny. I was pushing the car hard, had just set some :58 laps in the previous session and everything was feeling good. Got a good set up for the esses that take you out of the infield and up onto the high-banked superspeedway. Hard on the gas in 3rd through the esses and on the last one the back end drifts out to the right. I corrected and was bringing it back in just as the car crossed over the transition (bump where the track angles abruptly up onto the banking). It was ok until that instant and then all hell breaks loose ... It snaps around to the left and shoots up track towards the wall. Both feet in but it didn't seem to scrub off any appreciable speed. Hit the wall sideways on the driver's side. Don't know how fast I was going when I hit but the exit speed from the esses at the point it got weird was 110 mph and it didn't feel like I was bleeding off much speed in the slide.

I've slid outta that turn once before and it was way different. Locked 'em up, flat-spotted the tires and the car stopped hard ... didn't get anywhere near the wall. On this last one it just slid and slid and I couldn't really feel it slowing. Some have speculated that I hit fluid on the track around the transition. That could be true but I just don't know. It's a bad ass bump right there and unsettles the car in a big way when you go over it even in the most controlled attitude. Hitting it when you're outta shape and already sliding could have been enough to bring on the rodeo action. I do know that if cars are going to drop fluid on that track they'll do it there because of the big bump.

Who knows. It's still more or less of an anomaly. I guess when you're pushing a car hard it only takes one little anomaly to ruin your day ... or worse.

I can empathize with you Eric. I had a similar experience at the Kink at Road America. Fortunately, I was able to drive and walk away from that one.

I have not hidden it. I dutifully reported the incident at the mORGue afterward. It was in '99. Pretty simple repair - fender, tail panel/lens, fascia, back glass. I did all the bolt-on fixes myself and drove it to the painter. Probably cost about $3700.

Worst part about it was f'n-up the only factory-made CHROME rear fascia "Viper GTS" decal anywhere in the U.S. Damn, it was fine. /images/graemlins/sad
