Actually the upright bars mount to the floor that is above the exhaust system approximately where the bend is made from the sidesill in front of the rear tire.

Does the exhaust need to be removed then?

No,

There is plenty of clearance.

Believe me, if there were issues, folks would have bashed the product by now for sure as we have been selling them for over 3 years.

We spent many hours and lots of roll bar tubing perfecting the fit of this device. Every one is JIG welded to insure a perfect fit.
