Sean Roe told me to make a post here so youse guys with overpowered Vipers could help me. I'm going to Norwalk Viper Nationals in a couple of weeks and have discovered my Viper with the Roe Supercharger has excessive wheelspin if I give it more than 1/4 gas pedal in 1st gear from a stop.

If I launch at 1000-1200 RPM I have no bog at all, but if I get smoothly on the gas to more than 1/4 pedal I will go from a little wheelspin (good) to excessive wheelspin (bad) pretty rapidly.

I'm probably going to run my street Viper just like I drive it - on stock Michelins. With my level of inexperience (never ran my Viper on a dragstrip) I probably will get beat by the more experienced drivers in the Mod2 class, but I'd like not to embarrass Sean Roe, Yellow Vipers, and myself. And I'd like to beat Snake Bitten's NOS Viper at the very least. (Hee Hee)

So give me your advice on launching my Roe Supercharged Yellow Viper.

Thanks.

First of all, drop the tire pressure in the rears; that will help only a little, but it will help you hook up better. Norwalk is a very good track,IMO. I'll be runnin' in the regular bracket class. My lowly stock Gen1 MUST be the slowest Viper ever made. It sucks getting owned everytime I run a GenII with a mod exhaust. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

rears at 22psi. crown the fronts and go about 44-46psi

actually the best way to remedy this problem; REMOVE THE DAMN SC so i can whup ya, LOL. hell, a track virgin, street tires and too much power for his own good; I think I can take em :fist: /images/graemlins/ar15firing.gif

see you in three weeks Big Kat, unless like I offered, we hook up sooner and put in some seat time here at my local track, lemme know either way

There is some sticky stuff you can buy to put on the tires for the track, it's been a long time since i have used and i forgot the name. Once you start hooking up then you will start finding the weak link, you will know you found the weak link when you start spending money on broken parts.

Just for that remark, I'm gonna really whoop-ass Gerald and it will be your fault! /images/graemlins/bootyshake.gif

Buy some drag radials for goodness sake! Why would you want to run street tires and run much slower times? It bothers me when people do that! You spend all that money making all that power and you can't even put it down!

I certainly can and do put down all of that power, but not from a dead stop. I drive my Viper on the street and the track, not onto a trailer and off the trailer when I get there.

As someone who has drag raced most of my life I can tell you that practice is something you can never get enough of. Just keep trying until you find what works best for your car and you. That and get Tom Welch's video. I hear it has lots of good info on it. (have not seen it yet)

My Viper Tech is going to take me drag racing next week at test & tune. He runs a Dodge Dart that goes 10.5-10.7 ET and 120-125 MPH and has been doing it for many years. Hope the weather is good and everyone else goes to whichever dragstrip we aren't at so I can get a lot of practice runs in.
