Who has suggestions on the best radar detector? Furthermore, how about police scanners? Valentine? Passport 8500?

You will soon come to find out that the V1 on this site is the unanimous decision for everyone here. Its been posted about over and over again. We even gave away a V1 as a prize. If you don't have a V1 you might as well turn yourself in for speeding.

Thanks, I'll rush straight to the store and buy one....wait, maybe I'll drive slowly....no, I'll rush. I thought V was the choice, just wanted to be sure, I suppose.

I have several radar detectors and honestly, they all seem to work good enough to keep me from getting tickets. I rely on my eyes for the most part.

As far as a scanner, I like the Uniden Bearcat BCT-7 which indicates that a cop is within 3 miles of my current location. This along with the radar detector and my eyes are about my best defense against tickets.

For scanning, the BCT-7 is not as good as a scanner that has trunking capability, but its capability of indicating a cop in a general area is its best quality.

I personally would buy new as older ones might not be as effective as they are not updated. If its not upgraded then you have to send it to them and pay for the upgrade...thus creating more hassle and cost.

Toby and weeztones, thanks, I just ordered one. I hope this thing really works. Everyone has told me is is remarkable, I suppose it detects before they can get "lock" on you?

I was going to order a V1 also, I thought the remote mount might be good for a rt10? Has anyone seen a cover you can put on the part that goes on the windshield? I saw one somewhere that made the detector look more like it was part of the car. The front & back were still open for detection??

The V1 has unquestionably saved my ass on many, many occasions. Vipers should include them as standard equipment. In Florida where everything is nice and flat and open, it isn't unusual for the V1 to go off on the highway as much as three or four miles before you pass the Dunkin' Donuts.

Had a V1 now for a month and I have been saved twice already. I am on the road a lot and these things do work. For $400, you get your money's worth. Think how much a ticket + the higher insurance rate you pay when you get that ticket. If you haven't got a V1 yet, what are you waiting for, stop being stubborn and get one! /images/graemlins/smile.gif
