I wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience comparing the two? It would be interesting to see overlayed dyno charts for the two... has this been done?

I know the Roe puts down more low-end torque and the Paxton is better for top end speed, but by how much? Does the Paxton have such low end torque that it will feel like a turbocharger? Thanks!

A couple of weeks ago I had posted this superimposed dyno chart of GaryA's Heffner supercharged (Vortec) car and UtahViper's supercharged (Roe) car.

http://www.rcgresearch.com/images/CombinedDyno.jpg

I believe GaryA's car uses pump gas where UtahViper's car uses 100 octane unleaded-- I think. I know both of these car have been modified from stock but I don't know the extent of the modifications. This is however a good representation of what each supercharger is capable of.

and the Paxton is a vortex style while the Roe is a roots style? Both of these are inner cooled too correct? (Utah has that Methane system) It seems like Paxton guys are putting out more Hp, but that be beacause not many Roe charges have any cooling.

That's an interesting chart Go Fast. Thanks for posting it.
As for the intercooler, Sean has one. If it's not available yet, it's release in imminent. Too bad that the chart is not comparing apples to apples with different mods in each car, but overall, you can certainly see the difference.

The Roe is a twin screw style, not roots. The twin screw is more efficient than the Roots. That is why it is outlawed in Top Fuel, the screw would be insane on them.

Paxton, Vortex, etc are centr. S/C's. Really just a belt driven turbo.

This illustrates the main reason that I chose Sean's SC. For street use, in my neck of the woods, I seldom get to see 4G's on the tach (let alone 5G's and north). So for "City" use, the choice is obvious.

"Does the Paxton or Vortec Supercharger make more noise than the Roe charger?"

All depends on a few things. Belt type, width, blower speed, etc.

Believe it or not but most of the whine comes from the belt. A cogged belt will be the loudest of them all. Not saying that all the whine is from it mind you.

Spin the blower faster (overdrive it) and it will whine more.

When I had my 8-71 on my car it whined like a bitch. Which I loved by the way. But a racer buddy of mine told me of a way to tone it down a bit. What you would do is drill some small holes in the cogs (toothed pulleys are actually called cogs) and it would let some of the trapped air out. This would lessen the chance of throwing the belt a small bit while also toning down the whine a bit.

In my opinion, for a everyday driver or weekend cruiser, you cannot beat the Roe kit. The torque is insane at any rpm. I have never had the chance to drive a centrifugal blower on a v-10, but I have on many f-bodies, mustangs and corvettes... they feel great and are awesome at the track. If you plan on making a lot of horsepower, go with a Paxton Novi 2000 if you plan on making a killer cruiser, I would buy one of Sean Roe's 8# kits.

Joe

I love the whine too and I wish there was a supercharger for the Viper that you could here a mile away...then I would buy it as long as the horsepower numbers were equal to the Roe!!
Buy the Roe kit and have some custom cogs and belt made up for it. 3 inch if there is room for it. If not, then get one as wide as you can go. Then it will whine.

Any of them will whine with the right belt/cogs and blower speed. Listen to a Top Alcohol Funny car and hear that bitch whine. That is music. :thumb:

I have a video of Ben Treynors were you can hear his whine nicely. Maybe Ben will see this and post it again. I have it saved to my PC and have no idea how or if it can be posted here.

Here is another dyno graph for you. This is of my car which has 30% leak down in number 10 cylinder thanks to a stuck number 10 injector creating a black plug on number 10 cylinder. Plus my car has cats on it and is running 11 psi of boost. I will repost new numbers as soon as I get new pistons etc from John Hennessey.

Before the methanol system I ran 16-17 gallons of 91 octane and 2-3 gallons of toulene(110 octane) @8.5 lbs of boost with 1.5 degrees advance in the midrange. SO maybe 95 octane at the most. Also, the dyno sheet was before the methanol system. I do not have a good representation of the power increase in the form of a dyno sheet yet.

That is a great comparison between the roe and paxtons/dlm/heffner. However, I think the dlm's have quit a bit more low end torque than the heffners. I am not saying one is better than the other just what I have seen from the dyno sheets.

Hmmm... looks like the Roe Supercharger would probably be the best fit for me. Anyone got a used one lying around for cheap /images/graemlins/smiles

I have heard that the Roe is quiet. Does the Paxton make a whinney noise like most superchargers?
When you go throttle down.....they will know that something is up /images/graemlins/yes
