i have an optima redtop. it has done its job well so far :thumb:
I replaced my factory battery with the red top. I like it a lot (seems to have more cranking power and holds a charge longer). I had to grind down the top positive terminal post to get it clear one of the frame rails, but it was a piece of cake.
I really like the red top as well. I can highly recommend it!
I'll echo what everyone else has said. I have a Red Top in the Viper and am on my second Red Top in the daily driver. Great batteries.

I'm not sure if you are aware but there can be fittment issues depending on your battery tray. For some people the Optimas slide right in, for others, some massaging needs to be done.

Also, as a note, Optima now also makes a slightly smaller Red Top which may be a more likely first-try fit. It has a fewer less CCA's but still more than enough. I went with one of these as a replacement for my older, larger red Top in the DD.
Optimas are a choice, or call BillK to get the fully sealed race battery they have. Since you track it is another option. My rear panel bolts underneath the battery are all corroded from the acid seeping out from the stock battery from tracking. The optima is sealed so it should be fine, but the Reactor one is a dry cell I believe and is smaller/lighter too.
I'm on my second yellow top Optima. My first one I cut the neg. post off and it died a month later. The second one, I put my car jack between the frame and battery tray to bend down the tray just enough to fit it with the posts.
I heard they are going to make Optimas without top post.

2000 GTS Steel Grey

Alloy fly wheel, Short throw shifter, Polished aluminum intakes, K&N air filters,
Optima battery, Sterling silver key.
Looks like I will go with the red top. Thanks for your input.

Right now the Viper is dead in the water, but not for long !!
I found Red optimas at Costco (St Louis) for $99. Not sure of the size tho.
Oh God. Are you kidding? I hate RedTop. What a frikking pain in the ass, always blabbering about the stupidist shit ever, selling out for that one eight hundred a t t commercial.
The fitment issues are solved by laying the battery on it's side. THe Optima is a sealed gel cell that will not leak. I put a red top in my Viper and merely laid it on it's side and used solid brass marine terminals from Advanced Auto parts. It fit and works perfectly.

I figure if Tom Sessions one of the best Viper Techs in the US does it this way I should take the hint. As I said it works perfect and does not leak.

I just put one in mine. Cut off the top posts for clearance and put JB weld on it to prevent shorting along with part of the top plastic cover on the positive post.

simple task.

Damn, why didn't I think of that? lol I just shaved a little off the post and stuck it in. Works like a charm.
How long do the factory batteries last?

Oh, Red Top. I was thinking Carrottop.
opt red top is good but sears gold just as good, the olny thing optima has better is can go upside down, so unless your plannin on doin some freaky ass james bond shit, go with something thats meant to fit in the space provided

You mean all Viper drivers don't do that on a regular basis? Strange.
