Good times at Moroso yesterday. I started to get a little bit of fade after six or seven laps but not enough to put me in the pits. Gawd, it was awesome to keep staying out lap after lap gaining confidence in the brakes after every lap. Never before have I ever been so physically tired from tracking.

First session brought me in for a minor brake adjustment.
Second session brought me in for a blown off water hose. That was cool. Each lap I kept getting closer to the group ahead of me. Just as I was setting up for the pass on a SRT/10 the hose blow off and I got a windshield full of fluid. Pretty cool. I put the hose back on, watered it back up and went out for three or four more sessions.

Had a lot of fun putting the heat on a Cobra (kit, not Mustang) and passed him one lap before the checker for the last run of the day.

Jay (Slither) and I traded leads for a session. He has a few more HP and full Stoptechs, but I have Hoosiers and Stoptech fronts so the cars even out.

JT is forever in debt to me for letting him run my spares. We should have taken pics of the Kumhos he wasted. They looked like the shreads you see on NASCAR.

Steve the Greek is quietly sneaking up from the back. One day he will show up with fully caged race car and we'll be spending the day trying to decipher his accented trash talk.

Andrew, Jerry great seeing you guys as usual. Jerry, bring the girlfriend to all the events please.

Chris N. and the Tampa Posse - see you at the next one. :thumb:

Gawd, I love this stuff.

Next up - the Pupras at Texas.

Steve (V10Nationals.com) and I stayed over an extra day in Miami to check out the Saturday night scene w/ Jay (Slithrn) After a long day in a rental car with Steve, I just got back to Jacksonville at 7:00 pm today...

If it weren't for Chuck graciously letting me borrow his spares I would have wasted my entry fee.

I went out for the morning warm up and after several laps I was still sliding all over the place. I chalked it up to being on this track for the first time and not yet having the line so I backed off and finished the session. When I came in here's what we found:

I can say for sure that I got my money out of these Kumhos...

Gratefully, I was able to run on Chucks's spare fronts, a pair of 17" Forgelines w/Hoosiers, the rest of the day. I didn't want to push it and take a chance on ruining borrowed wheels and rubber so I went on short sessions and ran at about 75%. The other guys were ecstatic at this rare, one-time opportunity and gleefully passed me again and again :fist:

We had a great time as usual. You all owe it to yourselves to come out for one of these track events and let the Florida Road Warriers entertain you for a weekend...

Steve and Chuck struck up a friendship with this very large and quite tame egret. By the end of the day "she" was following Steve around giving some sort of mating call...

That egret is lucky there wasn't any hotsauce around.

But isn't it wonderful that nature's animals and man can live in harmony? Even with 40 noisy, smelly, emission polluting cars doing 100+ speeds throughout the precious wetlands? Animals don't give a shit.

I destroyed a set of front tires, testing of the grab of the new stoptech kit. just amazing. with all four wheel kit and Brakeman 3's, I easily could brake under the 100ft mark.

2 times in the morning, trying to get more and aggresive with the braking, I locked them up pretty good and ended up flat spotting a front or 2. With the stoptech there is a point of no return, after while I could feel when they were about to lock up by slight peddle modulation when pads start to really seat with the slotted rotors. all afternoon, I did not lock up once and enjoyed looking at the reflection of my car in chuck's paint job for a few laps until he let me by.

Seeing as my front tires are wrecked, I'll just use rears on street and snap up some toyo's.

It's times like this I miss my Home State! I'll be headed to Summit Point in April for some laps......... otherwise I cannot locate a track club like SAFE in friggin' Ohio.

You guys are going to the track...and my Viper is sitting in the garage waiting for the snow to melt.

What the hell was I thinking?

Curious, those Kumhos, how old were they?
They had a bad run on their victoracers last spring and SCCA banned them from competition until they fixed the problem (tread separation/premature tire wear)

Looks like it was a blast nonetheless...I have driven Moroso (in a Z06 though) its a tiny track for the horsepower cars thats for sure...

Tiny and narrow...

I bought them in May of last year and have 6-7 track days on them plus street driving and to and from each event so they held up very well for me, I just drove the tread off 'em. SAFE has a break for 2 months so I thought I could squeeze that last race out of them. Here's a link the the Kumho discussion where the Tirerack website is now reccomending shaving them for dry track use:
thread

I just mounted a whole new set with 305's up front at full 6/32 tread. I figure I'll wear them down a little driving to and from but based only on my past experience they do fine at full tread.
