This is probably asked alot and I tried the search function without finding what I was looking for but what is the best sounding LOUD exhaust out there including headers and all? So you use 4 mufflers or two, hi flow cats??? Also some websites of where to purchase the system would be nice too. Thank you all.

I would have to assume that you have an '01 Viper from your name?
If that is the case, I don't know about loud, but I do think that Corsa makes the most bad-ass sounding rear Viper exhaust.
Just my opinion.
You have several options depending on your $$ situation.
Headers back, Cat-back, hi-flo cats, etc.

That Corsa sounds so nice. Will it sound even better with headers? Does that Corsa include the Hi Flow cats? Do I order straight from Corsa or a dealer or what? And how about headers whats the best place to order them from? The money isnt a problem but what can I get for 3000 or less that will make this thing sound good. Yes its an '01. Thanks!

RJ:

All the catback systems will sound louder with headers (as long as the headers are larger diameter than stock) since there will be more airflow. All the catback systems do NOT include cats (hence from the "cat back"). Order HF cats and headers from dealers/discounters.

What are you looking for here, sound or HP? Are you doing the install yourself? $3,000 will buy you HF cats and a cat back system, but may not also buy you headers depending on which you choose and the cost to install.

Check Corsa, Borla and B&B catback systems for HP and sound. There are also several header manufacturers that you need to check.

I've got the mopar/borla exhaust on my 02 and I like it a lot. I used to have belanger side exhaust on my 94 with 3" high flow cats. That was suuuper loud. I could set off car alarms a block before I arived. Too loud for everyday driving but a lot of fun for stirring up trouble.

I got the 3" corsa and i really like the sound. Quiet enough when idling so i can pull out the parking lot and AWESOME muscle car sound at WOT!

I’ve got to chime in on this one. I can’t imagine how anyone would think the Corsa system actually sounds good. I have a ’99 ACR which is stock except for the Corsa cat-back (was on the car when I bought it) and it sounds terrible! Under power it sounds much better, but at idle, it reminds me of a 20 year old, worn-out dump truck! We have had numerous customer cars in the shop with the Corsa as well, and they all sound the same. We recently had a customer who had us install the 3” Corsa system on his ’00 GTS and he was definitely disappointed in the sound.

I don’t mean to disrespect anyone who has a Corsa on their car or to say that it is not a quality exhaust system because it is very well made. However, we work on a LOT of Vipers, with all kinds of exhausts, and I have encountered very few people who like the sound of the Corsa although I suppose some must like it. The sound produced from aftermarket exhaust systems can vary dramatically, so if sound quality is what you’re looking for, do yourself a favor and listen to several systems in person before you make your decision. And BTW, listening to exhaust sound clips through your computer does not even come close to reproducing what the exhaust system sounds like in person.

I agree to some points made.
1) listen to the exhausts in real life -don't rely solely on sound clips played through the computer
2) look for quality as well as sound

I personally listened to the belanger exhaust with headers -way too loud for me (and had a high pitched metallic sound to it at WOT).
I listened to no cats and straight pipes -way too loud as well, particularly at idle/low RPM.
And i listened to the corsa, which i really liked and subsequently bought. I primarily liked the sound, the construction/quality came second.

my few cents (again), but you should go and listen for yourself.

I don't know what sound clips you are listening to, or what speakers you play them through, but the video I posted sure sounds like my car to me. And.... I like it.

:stupid:

The Corsa rocks with the Random Tech HF cats. The Corsa website has a sound bit and it is almost identical to the real deal. I LOVE mine.

I much prefer the Borla catback sound to the Corsa. The corsa is way too high pitched and metallic for my taste. HOWEVER, the Borla system (less expensive) is not up to the quality of the Corsa, which is really excellent.

i have heard Borla, TNT/Hennessey, B%B, and Corsa. i have heard them all with headers, and they are all loud. but you will need to see for yourself which sound you like the most. i bought Corsa, belanger headers, and random tech honeycomb cats. i LOVE the way my car sounds, but i have other mods that effect the sound of my car. another tip, listen to exhaust on another 01. the cam in your car is different than previous years and that does effect the sound of your exhaust. the loudest exhaust i have heard was Smokin's. as stated above, he has 1 7/8 headers, NO cats, and Corsa. i would recommend Corsa over ANY exhaust out there, contrary to another opinion.

Thank you all SO much. You have been alot of help but theres a problem. There are only 2 RT/10s around here that Ive seen and none have exhausts so the "hear it in person" thing wont really cut it for me. So is a good combo the Belanger headers, and Corsa Cat back? Also should I go with hi flow cats or no cats? If I do the cats should I do the honeycomb ones or the hi flow ones? Thanks again!

Cap,

I agree with you 100%. That video/sound clip you posted sounds EXACTLY like my Viper with the Corsa exhaust/high-flow cats/stock headers. I have half-way decent ($75) speakers with my computer - nothing special.

I do agree exhaust sound is subjective, so you should try and go to a Viper event and compare. Personally, I like Corsa best, Bellanger a close second, Borla a distant third, a chopped stock system fourth, and a OEM stock system last.

P.S. - I have yet to hear a Viper that sounds great at idle with any system (doesn't sound bad, though). But once you floor the pedal, it rocks!!! /images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading many words of caution when picking headers for later year Vipers. Something about balancing the back pressure and that if this is done incorrectly it can result in a loss of horsepower. Can someone elaborate?
