I know there is likely lots of info here if I do a search, but I'm an impulse buyer and was hoping to get some quick answers.
1st, does anyone know if my amp in my "2000 GTS" has high and low pass filters Or do all 6 speakers recieve the same freq.?

I'm looking at doing a minor upgrade for now, just speakers. The local speaker shop has a super discount on some 6 1/2 RockfordFosgates. Like regular $268 now on for $98, but they are two ways and if the amp doesn't have high and or low pass filters then I will likely do 2 ways in the doors and in the back. However, if there filters in the amp, I should just use 6 1/2 subs for the rears and 2 ways for the doors.

What are you experienced thoughts?

Tracey...The stocker amp runs full range...You can add passive crossovers on the doors speakers (caps) and rear subs (coils)...Just tell precisely this to the audio shop doing the install...They will know what to do, passive crossovers are relatively inexpensive too...

Hey thanks G, that's what I thought. They are 6 1/2's right? Also I'd rather do the filtering before the amp (less work for the amp) or have an amp with a low pass filter maybe. What do you think? I have a Carver with a low pass filter, maybe I should use that one.

Filtering the inputs would work just fine, although I know it would be "easier" to filter the outputs, because the "caps" can go on the "positive" connection in the doors and the "coils" can go in the rear speaker holes, and you won't even have to dink with the amp at all...Take a speaker out of the door, and out of the rear and take with you when you buy...There seems to be a bit of "controversy" as to which size the doors are...Rears are definitely 6.5's...

If you don't have to replace the tweets, just leave them in, they do have a passive crossover built in the from the factory...and you won't have to take your door panel off...

You are right, that would be the simplest. For the amount I listen to the stereo in this thing I don't want to go too crazy. Rather spend my cash on go fast gear!
So, the amp has four channels right? I'm not lazy and it would be easy to check, it's just that the Stereo joint is on my way home.

Yep, the amp is a 50 x 4 (when the selector switch is on "C") which it should be from the factory.

Are the rear speakers just subwoofers? All I get out of mine in my '01 GTS is some muddy, low frequency sound that I have to crank the fade up on to even hear. Are they toasted and if so, what should I replace them with?

Get the Focal's by JM Lab.

2-piece in the doors, and they make one of the best 6 1/2" subs on the market right now. I had Image Dynamics subs in the RT, and I think the Focal subs are better. The mains are killer, even at highway volumes.

I did mine last summer, and I think I paid around $2000 Cdn for the 2 components and 2 subs. All 4 fit directly into the factory holes.

I went with an Eclipse deck and a pair of U.S. Amps to drive them.

Without making space for bigger equipment, I'd say it's the best sound for the buck you can get. Total cost for my system was well under 5K Cdn installed.

When I'm going through the garage I'll see if I can dig up the receipts.
