I got to dive one. Holy shit. It has got to be the easiest car to reach it performance limits. It corners hard, gips much like a viper (totaly dif feel though) the understeer is 100% predictable and it's realativly quick. 0-60 was a hoot because of the AWD. Also with the new 6sp the car is all that much better. The seats are supportive and the wheel is nice and thick. I can't tell you how EASY this car was to drive. No matter what I did wrong...the car would not spin or be upset. If the 276hp isn't enough. I know HKS has power packages upto 500hp. A 500hp evo to drive daily...now that would be fun.

If your looking for a bargan price turnkey racecar. The EVO MR is where it's at. To say I was impressed, would be a understatment.

Pretty cool. I am trying to figure out which daily driver I want to replace my Dodge with in the coming year. Right now the 350Z is top of the list. The STi is nice, but I'm not a real big fan of it's styling, plus they only let you test drive the WRX. I had always heard that the Evos come boosting like 19 lbs. from the factory and their engines are pretty much maxxed from the factory. Even if it's a daily driver, it would be nice to have a few cheap mods that could give me an edge getting to that next traffic light. /images/graemlins/wink How is the MR different than the other Evos?

MR is a "stripped down" Evo; no wing, A.C. delete option, lighter weight, six speeds. I would by an '05 Evo in white or blue, downpipe, chip, exhaust, and intake and drive the shit out of it. They're sick little cars, although the WRX has more mod-potential.

The MR is NOT the stripped down version of the EVO it's the RS version that is the one you are describing with the exception of the 6-speed. You got that part right for the MR though. Plus with the MR you get the ACD (active center differential), 276 hp and 286 lb-ft, and a slightly better suspention. The whole EVO line got a little bit of a diet too. The EVO has a ton of potential also thanks to tuners like buscher racing out here in OHIO testing the limits of the EVO motor and drivetrain.
I see you are from MD, If you plan on driving this car in the winter I would definetly get this over the 350z. Because if your winters get as bad as ours sometimes get, you do not want a rear drive car for the winter. AWD is you friend.
If I had the money, I would get the evo for my daily driver and have my
SRT-4 for my weekend warrior. Especially seeing that the car will 400whp on the street and close to 500whp on track days coming this spring. You have got to love the potential of the SRTs. /images/graemlins/smiles

maxed from the factory...hog wash. Remember it's the same (basically) 4g63 that's in the old DSM's (Eclipse/Talon/Lazer). No issue getting 400hp from one with bolt-ons. The motor is rock hard. I don't know if these will have the crank-walk issue the genIII's had. But it really is the best 4 cyl I've ever owned. (I used to have a 400hp DSM...I miss it sometimes.)

I don't know about that. The 4g63 has been arould for along time. EVERYTHING you need to make 500+ hp has been arould for years.

Now if you talking about the turbo 2.5 in the STi. Sure it could make more power it's got more displacement...but...are the years of tuning exsperiance there?
