Methodology for Seconds

1693 Views 19 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Smokin
The question was raised on whether a motion to ban needs to be seconded by a mod before it can go into effect due the amount of "joking" on certain threads for banning. This will become policy if you wish:

<FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="http://www.viperalley.com/dopoll.php"><INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="pollname" VALUE="1056947555SmokinV10">

Should Motions to ban require a second by a moderator or should they require only a second from any member?
<input type="radio" name="option" value="1" />they should only require another member
<input type="radio" name="option" value="2" />They should require a moderator
<INPUT TYPE=Submit NAME=Submit VALUE="Submit vote" class="buttons"></form>

A few more rules like that and we will be back where the VCA was when we left.
24 hours have passed. Does this mean it passes? I also assume it means the moderator has to make a public declaration of their support?

That is correct.

THIS IS TOTAL BULLSHIT! I don't think the "mods" votes should have counted on this pole...The results are biased...rigged...flat out...

This is a great point. MP - is there anyway to adjust the poll so that the mods are left out from voting?
So us normal users don't have a vote in bannings from now on? Is that right?
I would hope not.

Apparently the "actual" decisions come down to the "chosen" ones...It's a sad, sad day, that the majority no longer are involved in the decision making process...

YOU FUCKERS BETTER NOT RAISE MY TAXES!!!
THe poll is still open YOU CAN VOTE
I think mods should be allowed to vote on this and any other vote. They are members of this site just as much as anyone else and they should be allowed to participate.

for the record, i voted one way but upon thinking about this overnight i decided to change my vote. I think that its in the best interests of this site and it's relative democracy to have the members control the rule making and delegate moderators to purely deal with the enforcement of the decisions of the members.

By making moderators only dealing with the enforcement side of this site we can keep this as a direct democracy and we won't have to worry about elected representatives to represent the will of the members and all the other stuff that i believe was the core of the problems with the morgue.

What's next? General elections for "representative moderators"?
Let me give you an example....

Nothing pisses me off more, than when Congress votes to give themselves a raise...Get it???
Gerald,

would it piss you off as much if you got to vote together with the members of congress?

It would be different if this would only be the mods voting about what mods power should be. But that is not the case, here every member are voting on what the mods power should be. And mods are members with just as much say as a member of congress has the right to vote in a general election.

SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF ALL THE MODS...WE DEMAND A RAISE!!! :thumb:
Well...At least I fillibustered long enough to swing the vote!
ha ha ha /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Gerald got the dirty tricks nailed down in alley politics!

By a very narrow margin, the site will continue to run as it always has with no moderator seconds for a poll to be valid.
