I was reading a little about the CLK-GTR today, and it looks like the performance numbers are on par with the Mclaren F1, and even the Enzo, yet no one ever talks about the Mercedes super car. Why is that? They pop up for sale once in a while, and always seem to fetch $1 mil plus, so what makes the Mclaren so much better than these cars?

They don't fly away during a race like the Benz's did /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

The Mercedes CLK GTR is a full racecar, like the Porsche GT1, and Corvette C5R, and the Viper GTS-R.

There have been a couple that have been converted to being barely street legal, but it's not really the same thing as the McLaren, Enzo, or Carrera GT which are as quick, but could be happily driven on the road normally.

When I look at it, I am thinking CLK and that is not what I think of when I think about exotics or supercars. To me it looks awkward. /images/graemlins/greddy.gif

Not quite. There were around 25 cars that were built as road cars, not race cars. The car I posted pictures of is the second road car built, and is the one that the press used for magazine features and road tests.

There are also 5 open top road cars that were built.

Yep, I knew about the 24 CLK GTRs, the 5 roadsters, and the 1 Super Sport (Red/720HP), but even though these are officially "production cars" they are really just for PR. For 1.2 million to 1.5 million dollars each, they are likely just going to super-rich automobile collectors and museums.

Being a thinly disguised racecar conversion, they are quite likely uncomfortable/harsh, edgy to drive, and definitely not good for a long cruise or being stuck in traffic. Super-specialty cars are great for posters, but not for owning.

I'd much rather spend a fraction of the money and get something like a Porsche Carrera GT which has better performance, and you would actually enjoy driving it daily.

Even more realistically, I'll stick to my Viper.
