I just realized this might not be live.. Sue me if its a repost :p
Yes, it is a replay. A large group of us from So Cal made the trip with Paul up to Laguna Seca. We had dinner with Paul on Fri & Sat and then watched the race. It was awesome. A privateer beating the pants off all the factory pro teams (Porsche, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari) We were in a private Corporate tent which was adjacent to the Audi of No America tent. At the beginning of the race the AUdi guys were giving us Viper guys alot of attitude as they placed 1-2 on the grid. Well after the 3rd lap, as Mumford got buy the 1st place Audi, they got aweful quiet. It was great, us Viper guys had the last laugh all the way to the checkered flag and especially as Paul drove by the tent
on his cool down lap and did a huge burn out. It was great finish to a great weekend. The Comp Coupe is an awesome car and I'm sure PVO received a few orders for them on Monday.
If anyone recorded this, I've gotta have a copy. I'll pay for a good copy.
That was awesome! Makaha, I'd make you a copy but I can't tape from my VCR. Do you get Speed Channel? I'm sure they will replay it again.

The race was GREAT! One thing I chuckled about was how they kept referring to anything even slightly negative about Mumford as "his inexperience". But he didn't make any mistakes all race long... when the Audi got the jump at the restart they were so quick to say he was a nOOb and that's why it happened. What a bunch of moron commentators. They also alluded to the amount of complaining that will be done after the event by other teams because the Vipers were so competitive (read: fast). So I guess they will be petitioning the rulemakers to load up and restrict the Viper and loosen up the restrictions on the other cars. Blah.

They also had P. McClure commentating - he's the shithead who took out 2 of the Viper CC's at the previous race. I was amazed at what a complete tool this guy is. He said he stayed in the gas because he didn't want to get stuck in the grass, and he "couldn't understand" how the car went back on the track. Note to shithead - if you are 90 degrees perpendicular to the track (pointing at it) on the right side of the track, and your wheels are cocked fully to the right - well since your wheels don't turn 90 degrees, you're going to go at about a 45 degree angle right across the track. That is EXACTLY what happened and he absolutely NAILED Woody's CC. The guy should be penalized for being such an utter prat and ignoramus!

I felt the same way. They just seemed to keep making comments alluding to Mumford not being able to compete or being lucky with the positions he had. If it wasn't skill he wouldn't have been able to hold first for nearly the entire race.

Also pissed me off to hear them comment right at the end that the Viper may end up being saddled with more weight because of the thrashing it dealt to the other factory backed teams. Boo-hoo. It's already on smaller tires and the driver's have been able to overcome that. They're just looking for ways to help the big $$$ teams look better.

It was a great race nonetheless.
Agreed Mike, but I though Mc"haven't got a"Clue took out THREE Vipers. Both McCanns and Woody.

I guess it's a good thing I watched it at a bar so I didn't get to hear to bumbling commentators.

You're probably right - I saw him demolish two - I thought the 3rd was able to keep running. But either way, the guy is a MORON. He didn't give a SHIT about anyone else on the track and was willing to endanger everyone and crash up a bunch of cars just so he could try not to lose too many places after his screwup. He should have been severely penalized for that one. He probably caused a couple of hundred grand of damage, if not more with that little stunt.

So true. They should have suspended him for the rest of the season and some sort of strict probationary period next year. He totalled at least two Comp Coupes - there's 300K and there were what 5 or 6 cars involved? I'll bet he costs over a half mil in damage easy.

The dumbass went off course, the first thing on his mind should have been to re-enter the field safely, not to be worrying about losing position.

That series in general seems to be pretty much a contact sport. I can't count the number of times I've seen people do things that would make me knock them out in the pits after the race. Seems like nudging someone off track if you can't get by them is accepted, and going deep into the inside of a corner and using the outside guy as a bumper to push your car to hold the line is acceptable too.

Super-close racing is one thing - but when I see these guys nudging each other and occasionally sending someone off track it makes ME mad watching at home. The thing that baffles me is NONE of the commentators said anything even REMOTELY negative to PM - like "hey what were you thinking? You realize the damage you caused?". Nothing. They acted like shit happens and that's racing. The guy himself even blew it off - saying the car shouldn't have done what it did. Even I could see what was gonna happen.

This is making me angry now even thinking about it. What a dipshit.

I wonder if god wanted him to drive onto the track? You know - how god was the one that decided Holyfield should knock out Tyson, and how he decides the outcome of many sporting events.
I think alot of folks were surprized that Phil did not get penalized, as the total number of cars in the accident were:

1. Mike McCann
2. Jim McCann
3 Bob Woodhouse
4. Hans Stuck
5. and Phil McClure

I imagine the damage estimate of a couple of grand was way light, and with a 5 car debacle it sure would seem that a penalty would seem reasonable.
