So I failed my smog sniff test and took it to the dealer to see why. He said there was a check engine code and that the LD(? or something like that) pump had failed and needed to be replaced.

Its all under warranty, but what the hell is this thing, where is it, and what does it do? I'll look thru my manual when I get home. I had never heard of this thing failing on a Viper before though, whatever it is.

Leak Detection pump, a small pump that pressures up the fuel tank to check for vapor leaks (very small amount of pressure). The year matters, some are inside the fascia and some are in the rear by the fuel tank. It calculates pressure by number of strokes pumped/time. If it loses its "stroke" counter or "thinks" it never makes pressure it throws the check engine light.

Thanks David, it doesn't sound like that thing failing would make my car fail the sniffer test though. I could understand failing the gas-cap pressure test, but the sniffer failure sounds strange.
