Jan. \'05 Road & Track Viper Coupe details

Just wanted to see if anyone saw the R&T article (small). It states that the engine in the coupe (an '05 model) will have no performance increase over the current 500 bhp motor. Also states that the styling cues were mostly taken from the previous gen. GTS as it would have been to difficult to certify the Comp. Coupe body for crash testing.

I was told by an SRT employee that the first year of the coupe would have the same drivetrain as the current SRT-10. Look for a jump in the second year.

As for the design of the coupe, they are keeping the front clip, windshield and doors the same as the SRT-10 to keep production costs down - this way both cars share a bunch of body panels and DCX makes more per car.

That is what we were told at VOI. I think they said the R&D would cost too much to totally revamp the rear end, so they are using the styling from the Gen2's as they have already passes crash testing and so on....
