I am finishing up plans for a 30x40 garage.

I want to run an I-Beam across the 30' section and run a plain trolley with a chain hoist that I can slide back and fourth.

Is this do-able? What size I-Beam to cross a 30' span and hold 1500lbs in the middle?

An american standard I beam that is 12" X 40.8lbs/ft will be sufficient.

That is what I figured based on some website. Im guessing I will just have it drawn into the plans, and then whoever does the engineering can figure out how to secure the ends in the block walls?
