I didn't get an owner's manual with my 01 GTS so I need to find out how many quarts of oil a Viper (01 GTS if it makes a difference) takes when doing an oil and filter change?

And while I'm thinking about it is there anyone that sells owner's manuals?

Thanks!

check on ebay for the owners manual and service manuals. My car takes about 9.5qus to do an oil change. It is a 2000. Also stick with the Mobil 1 synthetic and use a good filter not just any cheap on. I use the Mobil one filters.

Thanks for the responses! :thumb: I take it then that you guys prefer the Mobil 1 filters to the Dodge filters? And do you guys prefer Mobil 1 10W-30 or 5W-30?

Thanks!

Mobil 1 10w-30, and 10 qts (01) with a filter change. Unless you have a sump like me and then its 12 qts baby! My 99 originally had a shallower pan, which was only 8.5 qts as I recall, but I upgraded to the deeper pan from the newer cars and baffled it.

Also....did you check in the pockets BEHIND the seats? You'd be surprised how many people said they didn't get the manual......then found it in the pocket. :)

don't use other filters. Stock up and order a bunch of the Viper specific ones on RockAuto with a discount code. It'll be cheaper than other filters and its a better filter.

0w40 mobil 1 fully synthetic european blend here. 98 GTS

Mine takes 8.5 quarts including what I put in the filter. Yours should be 1.5 to 2 more quarts since its the 10 quart pan versus the 8

Edit: sorry just saw this thread was resurrected. Didn't notice it was an old thread.

I have a 2003 SRT 10. 10W-30 Mobil 1 is recommended. The newer Vipers use 0W-40. I plan to use 5W-40 synthetic in my 03. Is there any reason that I shouldn't?
There was a discussion years ago suggesting to use the recommended oil manufacturer and weight because the oil manufacturer's blend is specific to the auto manufacturer's specs. (suppliers, producers, etc. bid on those auto contracts).

In other words, the difference between 10w30 and 5w30 may or may not be only the weight. At least that was the chemist's in that thread said.

From a business perspective it also makes sense. If meeting the auto manufacture's specs to produce 10w30 is more costly than their run-of-the-mill 5w30, then an oil manufacture is apt to not put the same additives, etc. expense in the 5w30.

Don't slam the messenger. I'm not in the oil biz, nor am I a chemist. I'm just relaying what I've read by someone who is a chemist.
