Robert, I would seriously consider doint some of this yourself if you have the time.

Get some Mopar roller rockers, which are the same as T&D's for around $900 (sometimes find them cheaper) and put them on yourself. No special tools required, just a few sockets, remote starter and a little time. The money you save there will pay for your headers, which you can install fairly easy as well.

Gears, unless you are confident with getting the correct lash I would let someone do them, but all in all it seems like someone is trying to screw you on the labor charges. Again, I have never priced labor for these items, but it seems awful high.

I know Elite Motorsports in Florida was advertising Mopar roller rockers installed for a little over $1200 and T&D;s only cost a few hundred more. So $2800 is outrageous.

ps - also you can find complete diffs with 3.55's in them for around $1200 or less (brand new). Just bolt the entire chunk in and no gear swapping.

I've been debating 3.55 or 3.73 gears. I've been quoted $1000-$1100 at one place including the speedo correction box to as low as $800 w/o the correction box at another.

Thecorrcection box is $125 I think.

I've got nitrous on the car already although I have yet to use it.

My last car, blown with nitrous, had a lower first gear and I ran 3.70s. I was very happy with the ratios. I never got the nitrous to work but I would have gone through the lights in 4th either way. I ran a 6500 RPM redline in that car but could have raised it a bit higher if need be so that I didn't have to shift into 5th.

My reality is that if the Viper runs good on the nitrous and I run into the 11s, I'll only be able to do it once. I will not put a cage into the car..PERIOD. I may even pull the nitrous and sell it since I wouldn't be using it anyway.

So most of my driving will be on the street and driving to work. One advantage I think the Viper has over my old car is the bottom end torque. So maybe 6th is useful even with 3.55....I don't know. I like the aspect of lowering 6th alot.

NOS and the gears you are contemplating are not a good combo, you would have to shift into fifth to finish the quarter.

T&D's are approximately 1,200 and take about 4-6 hours to install by someone that has done a viper previously. Some people will argue it can be done quicker, however, this is one install that you want correct the first time. Another problem is you should also change the push rods and it is debatable on whether you can select the push rods till you take measurements with the new rockers installed. My point is this makes the install a two step process and takes some preplanning.

You just cannot install headers you have to mate the collector and turn-out to your existing exhausts. You should make a decision on whether you want to change or delete the cats. If I were you I would make this a winter project and replace the whole exhaust system with a 3" all the way out. Most muffler shops could probably do this, however, do you really want them working on your viper. If you take it to a shop, at least take off the sills prior to taking it in.

I have 3.55s and nitrous. You can still get up to a trap speed of around 130MPH before hitting the rev limiter in 4th with the 3.55s.

3.55s have a great feel, and 5th (even 6th) pull decently now. Unless you are at the 1/4 mile track all of the time, the gears are a great SOTP improvement.
Just make sure that wherever you go to get the gears swap does is a place that specializes in gear work. My first set of gears were fried within 500 miles from a bad installation.

I found that it was cheaper to buy the gears, have a regular mechanic pull the pumpkin (diff) out and take it in to the gear place, than to have one place do all of the work.

$2800 for the T&Ds installed is way too high.

Here's what I have on my car (I would like suggestions):

Tubes & Filters
Borla Catback
Roe H/F Cats
3.73's

If I want to add T&D Rockers & Headers (which would you all suggest?) then I wouldn't have to change my gears. Right?

If I added NO2 to this setup, I would have to downgrade my gearing? If yes, to what gears?

Thanks in advance for your help.

With just the addition of headers and roller rockers, it would not be necessary to change gears.(IMO) It is entirely what YOU like, regardless of what anyone may say including myself. Normally people who run NOS or have high noresepower cars revert back to the stock 3.07 gears. The majority feel the cars power is more useful with the stock gears.

700 hp car with 3.73's is gonna lay down the power very abrupt and make it hard to handle, where as a car with higher gears (3.07) will have a more smooth distribution of power.

Hope that helps

The max speed with NOS and 3.55's is more complicated than just the limit switch. Many cars are using a window switch. You have to get separation between the rev limiter and the window switch, therefore, bringing your max rpm down to approximately 5800.

A friend of mine did that combo plus cat back and heads on his SRT10. Result was 540rwhp and a bad ass drive with those gears. He held off a GSX1100 on the interstate in 3rd and 4th.... ok the bike wasn't new but still not bad for a mildly modded car. The 3.55 gears liven it up a lot.

On a Gen 2 without ported heads - reckon on around 50-60rwhp less.... at a guess. I'd be thinking around 480rwhp with a good tune max. Many make less with similar mods.

JDAWG,
I got this info from another post awile back, and it differs from your calculations. Which is correct, your or this one:

Gear Ratio and Top Speed Chart

3.07 : 58 76 114 151 204* 302*
3.31 : 54 70 105 140 189 280*

3.54 : 50 66 99 131 177 262*

3.73 : 48 63 94 124 168 249*

Where are you located? I am sure we (as a group) can find better deals than what you were quoted. I bought a complete rear end w/ 3.55's for under a grand, and sold my stock rear end after installing the "new" one for enough to cover all costs (rear end, gear lube, additive, and speedo box). T&D install is not a "no brainer" but $2800 including parts is a bit high... by at least a grand, I would think. Headers and complete exhaust install could add up to $600 I guess...
