Took my hard top in to get the front latches replaced under warranty, and the latch kits had wider screws that the stock latches, potentially to make them stronger because of problems people had had in the past like mine where a screw actually snapped off. Anyway, this meant the viper tech had to use his hole-widening tool (on the hard top screw hole!), but the tip broke off in the hole?! He tried to get it out to no avail, but broke two other tools in the process?! (BTW, he's a good tech, fixed a lot of things in the past on the car, including each window mechanism and the hard top rear latches.) So he said he would call DC to see what do about it, whether they would want to /would have any way to fix it at this point, or whether a replacement would be in order. Anyone ever have any experience with this?

Yep, some tough stuff, that's why he broke two more tools trying to get it out... I'd be happy with a new hard top though /images/graemlins/smile.gif

What ever happened? Did he get it out? Or are you getting a new top? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use to break drill bits when I worked in a machine shop and then would have the pleasure of trying to save my work and use carbide bits to get them out.

I still remember having to throw out a $1500 stainless shaft because I broke of a bit inside it. Boss was not happy but shit happens.

Apparently some other kit is being sent to effect the repairs, we'll see what happens... The tech said he'd come by my house to fix it, so I don't have to lug the top around in my truck, little does he know that I still have it in the truck /images/graemlins/smile.gif (The advantage of the F150 supercrew with the full back seat area, holds a viper hard top nicely!)
