The set of halfshafts just arrived today! I'm planning on doing the swap this afternoon. Anyone who has done it have any input? It looks very straightforward so far... Anyone know if i can just jack up and replace one side at a time or if it is better to raise the entire rear of the car? If all goes well the Viper should be back on the road this evening! :thumb:

Jack the whole car up, you're gonna have to be under it...It's best that the whole thing is on stands...

Also, don't re-use the old u-joint straps and bolts...The bolts have "lock-tite" on them, so you need to use new ones...

You'll remove the bottom bolts on the rear suspension too...If I remember correctly...


Now, my car is a 2000...not sure if yours is a bit different...

One of the most important items to remember is that the half shafts are balanced after assembly. You should mark them with a paint stick so that when you slide them apart to install them...they are slid back together on the same spline. Failure to do this will result in an out of balance scenerio should you slide them together on the wrong spline.

Hmm.. Remove the bottom bolts? anyone can confirm this for a 94??

Do your half shafts got through the bottom shock mounts??? If they do, I doubt they will slip through...

Bottom shock bolt needs to be re-torqued to 125 lbs when you put it back...

First off, you need to use new u-joint straps! They stretch to hold preload against the caps.

Next - since your car is a Gen1 (right?) you don't have to worry about the shocks since they don't straddle the half shaft with a clevis. They are bolted to the trailing tube of the lower wishbone and shouldn't present much of a problem with access.
