Future Viper Owner seeking advice. (Gen I or II)

I know this has been covered before, but I have a couple questions. I'm in the market for a used Viper and want to know what one would be best for me. I see low miles 94-95's for under $40,000 regularly anymore. My question is this. For a guy somewhat on a budget, is a Gen I a good buy assuming it is low mile and with a warranty? Or would a Gen II be money better spent.

I've driven a Gen I, but never a Gen II, so I'd like to know how they compare, and if a Gen I is the right car for a guy who just wants a nice summer cruiser.

Thanks in advance fo any help. /images/graemlins/gr_driving3.gif

The 96 RT/10 has the Gen II suspension, and 415HP... it does not have the roll-up windows nor the door locks. Nor does it have ABS and airbags (two more things to break IMHO).

The Gen II RT does have a nicer dash layout IMHO.

The 96 seems less prone to the head gasket problem..

If you are diligent you can pick up a nice 96 RT for right at or under 40K with a transferrable warranty. Especially being winter and a soft market.

I battled with Gen I vs Gen II for a long time... bottom line for me was I really do not want airbags... I can make up the 35 HP........AND I really wanted a Black RT with the Silver stripes... so I bought my 96 RT/10.

Good Luck!
