Drop Light

Does everyone use the cool florescent lights now? I need a new one and am tired of singeing my hair (I guess they're also safer considering gas and heat). Are the florescent drop lights as bright? Any make that's better?

I have one that has two tubes in it. I paid $55 from Mac Tools for it. What a fuckin mistake that was. The reason why I say this is that my local BJ's wholesale club has the exact same thing, just yellow in color instead of black and minus the Mac sticker, for less than $20.

Does not get too hot to hold, and the bulbs do not break all the time. Even the rough service bulbs I had used would break at times. Either the filament or the bulb itself.

I will never use the old style droplight again.

I figured I'd get a response from you. /images/graemlins/laughing.gif You OWN these interim forums J!

There seem to be single and double tube models. Griots makes a quad tube model too (I think). I think each bulb is 12 or 14 watts (florescent). Is your 2 tube light as bright as the typical 100 watt incandescent safety bulb?

I will put my two tube up against my old droplight with a 100 watt in it and see. I know the old one won't last too long with a 100 watt'r in it for sure. It will heat up like a bitch.

I do know that the two tube is a much whiter light. Is that a racist comment? /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

Do you have a link to the two lights that you are looking at? I am too lazy to search right now. Holiday laziness is in overdrive.

Here's the always great but ridiculously expensive Griots 4 banger 1 banger Home Depot version
This one is a little big to be used as a drop light. More of a stationary light for on the floor under the car or on a workbench.

This one is a cheaper version of the one that I have. Cheaper not in price that is.

Your Home Cheapo link did not give me the light so I searched and came up with this one. Looks like another cheapo special. Is that the one you were looking at?

I am going to BJ's tomorrow to get some things, let me check and see just what they have and how they all compare to each other.

I'm thinking that the first quad light will do the trick. For my use in and around the car, it will be fine. Also might work to light up the area to help with washing since the garage has shitty light. I would just love to have to turn down the light. For me, you can't have too much.
That will be good then for you and your intended use. But I hope you have another to use if you ever need one for say work under the dash.

I use mine for close up stuff, under dash, deep under the hood, etc. If I need some real light I use a stand with two big halogens on it. You know the kind with the big 500 watt lights on it. Heats me up when I am cold too. /images/graemlins/laughing.gif

Try Ebay for them before you spend more than you have too.
