The GenI RT/10 was an instant 'must have' in my book. A poster of a red '92 RT/10 was on my wall in college in 1992. Over the years I've been revisiting exactly what it was about the first red RT/10s that instilled such a powerful desire to be in the driver's seat.
The GTS .... had to grow on me. It still is to this day, even,. But, something about the rear end styling and the bubble-ish hard top cast an Asian flavor to the Viper's styling, which seemed out of place on a raw American muscle car.
Although..... I do find myself 99% as enamoured with a bumblebee GTS as I am with my red Gen2 RT/10.
You'd think that color is a second-order effect on one's interest in a car, but that damn poster must've had some Pavlov-like effect on me, as only bright colors belong - in my mind's eye - with such a car as a Viper. A grey Viper? :ugh:Good lord, why?? (A pratical side-benefit of hiding an outrageous car's lines with a blend-in-the-crowd color, however, is that you'll likely be less visible to the revenue-generating machine that is law enforcement).
The SRT viper is an interesting-looking car and nice in the same way an NSX, Honda S2000, or C5 corvette is nice. But it has little of the outrageous/cartoonish charm that the Gen1/Gen2 Vipers have. I'm in agreement wih Makara about the Gen3's styling. It would be a good candidate for my garage one day, perhaps a grey one to hide the off-cue styling a bit. <toungue-in-cheek> Then I could go super fast and not worry about cops so much.
I guess this is the long way of saying I'm brainwashed about [color:"red"] red [/color] RT/10s... :bonk:
