I am building a 542 stroker motor for my car. Here are the engine specs.
4.031 bore,
4.25 stroke,
10.5 CR,
GTS-R heads cnc ported,

I need to select a hydraulic roller cam and want a peak HP at about 5600rpm and still good drivability characteristics . I am shooting for 700-725HP (crank) or about 625-650RWHP.

I am thinking about a cam with 243 intake and 246 exhaust duration at .050 and a total lift of .560.

Can any of you builders/tuners tell me if this will give me the HP and driveability I want?

Glad to help how ever I can.

You can get the cam from where ever you choose, but I just wanted to give you an example of what is involved in picking the proper cam. I have an old spec sheet from my SB Charger that is longer than that one yet.

Not a sales pitch
From my research I know that John H. knows his cams. Talk to him and see what he has to say.

Those specs sound ballpark, maybe a tad small - but LCA & cam timing affects output too and you have to balance power with valve overlap you are willing to put up with.

Buy one from a Viper tuner that makes the power level you want - they got it via trial and error so won't likely give you the spec as it is their IP.

A cam grinder will - if you fill in all their data spec sheet they'll work out a custom one. Hopefully they'll get it right - if not - you could spend a bit trying different ones out.

The tuner has been there done that - I think I'd go there first.

Go Fast,

Torque is the local Engineer of the site who is always willing to help out with a computation or two. Your project is Awesome!! When I get my car, I'd like to do the exact same thing that you are currently working on. Thanks for posting.

Torquemonster,

Thanks. Do you have a 542 also?

Go Fast - you are welcome.

No I don't have a 542, but your project should produce a really nice beast!!!

My own plans are for a stock bore and stroke as I plan to run a fairly serious TT with solid roller and trick heads, rods and crank so the extra cubes will weaken it's dynamics for me. If things go really well for me and I can get 2 - then I may stroke one and do something similar to what you are doing with that - it'd be nice to have both a boosted monster and a crisp high comp n/a engine.

Good luck with your project! /images/graemlins/thumb1

Thanks for the compliment Jay K but I'm not an engineer. The tuners on this site are way more qualified than me. I'm just an enthusiast like you. Hope you can get your Viper soon!!

Jerome, Torquemonster, and JGK95 thanks for the help.

And a BIG THANK YOU to JOHN HENNESSEY for some valuable information on the project. I look forward to putting the car on the dyno this spring. I will keep everyone updated.
