Anyone have a recommendation for a brake controller? I've been advised to get the Prodigy by Tekonsha. It works by inertia even in reverse. My Chebby Avalanche has horrible brakes and needs all the help it can get.

I'll be pulling a 1300 lb open alum trailer (18 ft).

Just an opinion, the controller that works with the brake pedal has an infinite adjustment and can be applied independently in an emergency. Do the inertia models have the same capabilty.

Yes. Also the added advantage of an inertia-type controller is that it can determine the rate of deceleration and apply brakes accordingly. Other controllers that don't use accelerometers can only apply braking linearly.

Everybody I know swears to get the prodigy, so you can't go wrong with it I don't think.
