This is my first time using a tender. Can I hook it up using the positive terminal by the PDS under the hood (like jump starting the car) and groud it to the body or frame rather than having to connect it directly to the battery?

Wire the tender over to the side vent and you dont have to open the hood OR open the door.

Connect it to the POS terminal and the GND stud at the bottom. Get some wire clips at Radio Shack and attach to the control module housing screws.

Run the wires inside the bottom of the housing and allow just enough length so you can reach in the side vent to plug in the connector.

When not in use, put the cap on the connector and fold the wire back into the housing. (Invisible to the outside unless you know what to look for)

The battery tender should have come with a simple 2 prong adapter that yes you can connect to the hot red post under the hood. the adapter then goes down beside the computer and then out of the side air vent. It also has a cap to cover the plug to prevent shorting out. Then when not being used you tuck it back into the vent, and the hood never has to be raised to connect to the tender.

I tried the cheapos fron the local parts store and they are all junk. The battery tender model is top notch. good luck!!

Note to create a boner kill to the smack fest here, but I'll have to add an FYI to this thread. For the past 3 years I have just used the cigarette adapter for the Tender. Works great.

I use to use the clip under the hood way, but the area get so hot while driving I was concerned about melting the insulation from the wires and shorting out. I now use the cigarette adaptor mentioned earlier. It is a lot simpler with the only downside being you need to keep your window open about 1/4" to route the cable through, still not too big of a deal.
