Can anyone tell me why my 96 R/T 10 backfires when I shift gears and when I lay off the throttle (usually from 1st to 2nd)? I was told that the car needs to warm-up, but even when it warms up it still does it. Also, I live in Hawaii where it is always 80+ degrees so I don't know how warm it needs to be. Do you think I need to change the plugs? No Viper tuners here in paradise. Any suggestions will help. Also, looking at gaining some horsepower, know of anything that is easy to install for a non-mechanic. I currently have borla exhaust and thats about it.
Thanks

A pop pop is normal during decel, or whenever you let up on the gas, upshifting or downshifting, it is usually more pronounced with an aftermarket exhaust. NOS is good cheap HP, but you are limited by bottle life.

KV, drive through a tunnel in first gear to about 5000 rpm and release the throttle but leaving the clutch engaged. If this music (and I say muuuuusic) is what you are referring to...then it is all good. By releasing the throttle you are automatically creating a "rich" mixture which is exploding in the exhaust system.

But it is alllll good.

Yup, especially pronounced with Corsa 3". I love just letting her coast down from WOT and seeing people duck and cover.
Hey Mark, I have the 3 inch Corsa and the RT HF cats. Did you do the cats too?
You bet I did. The high flows make a great difference.

PS. I love your avatar. Did you see they just released a widescreen version of that movie on DVD? I've been survivin the past couple years with the regular issue DVD they put out, but I just picked up the widescreen version at BestBuy on monday. Got the original vacation too.

I'm a newbe with a 96 the backfires a little as well. It seems to be normal. I think it has something to do with the firing order.

If no cats, or cats are gutted, it will not only backfire, but flames will shoot from the exhaust.

Happened to me as I gutted cats on a Vette and someone pulled me over just to let me know there were 2 foot flames shooting out.

I then loved having the cats off even more!

Stop complaining or put the stock exhaust on and you won't hear anything..
THAT sucks..
