I read a lot of discussion about wings for Vipers. There is a thread about it on the morg right now.

Some wings I like, most I dont like. But as all things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So goes the Viper too and for some a big air brake hanging off the back of their car's is just too hard to resist.

So I will make my point simple: If you add a wing or splitter to your Viper, you will slow it down in all forms of straight line acceleration and overall top speed. Yes, if it is properly balanced, it can help improve downforce for faster cornering speeds for road courses and twisty roads.

But I will venture to say that some of the more extreme "red barron" bi-plane and tri-plane wings will lower 1/4 mile trap speed by several mph.

So if you add a big pimpin wing to the back of your car, just be careful if you decide to engange another fast car for a side by side roll on.

I can't believe the man that made the Supra Hoop wrote that! Are you no longer in the body upgrade business, John, or just tired of seeing Vipers trying to imitate Ricers?

By the way, just last night I was looking at the old MT mag with the prowler yellow Venom 650....nice bumper AND wing. That car did 214mph. At the time, didn't you just want to screw the marketing and let the magazines test the car w/o the wing? Was the "look" more important to you (at the time) than the awards?
Just wondering.

I know at the VOI-7 drags I took down two Mod 1 cars that had wings and splitters with headers. My only Borla catback none winged car while it lost the jump at the line to both of those, reeled them in around 3/4ths of the way down the track and put them away at the finish line. I later started to see some owners unbolt at least the wing and take them off.

If you ready the later posts by that individual, he does admit that the wing is for "poser" status only. I do agree that unless you admit to "poser" status (which is not a bad thing, I guess) wings and splitters on a Viper belong on VRL & ALMS cars. Any wing placed on any other car is for "Poser" status only whether the owner will admit it or not.

Opnwd - we still offer all of our VenomAero body upgrades including the wing. We probably sell 2-3 wings per month and I tell the buyers the same thing too: It looks cool, it is functional and you will give up 1-2 mph in 1/4 mile trap speed. Most buy it for the looks as I imagine most other wing buyers do as well.

Not trying to make any current or future wing owners feel bad, just trying to inform everyone that ANY wing or splitter on the Viper will add drag (downforce of varying degrees) and thus hinder your straight line acceleration.

Hoosier - good point in that many wings can be removed for a drag strip event.

But a freeway encounter with a chipped 996TT will not allow time for a pitstop and wing removal. Certainly most can add power that more than overcomes aerodynamic drag. But if you take 2 Vipers both with 450 rw hp, one with stock body and the other with a GTSR style wing on the back. Line them up on your favorite test track, I would guess that the stock bodied car would have a car length or more advantage by 150 mph. By 170 mph it would be even a more dramatic distance. This may be too hard core for most to care about, but I felt that it was worth saying.

YES!!!!

I have a big wing and want to race.

The wing is 63 Feet across and is attached to a Citation X jet aircraft. Now that the Concord is grounded, the Citation X is the undisputed fastest civilian vehicle that one can travel in.

We can start in Houston and race to the city limits of anywhere you'd like! LOL

Have BIG WING, WILL RACE!!

Is the Concord really grounded? Why? I must have been under a rock.
They finally decided that since the Concorde loses a lot of money on every flight and after the tragic crash after a tire blew apart on takeoff that it wasn't worth it anymore so the two airlines that flew them retired them about a month ago.

And what were you doing under that rock?

Ah yes, I love this body kit. Oh yeah, must be why I just bought a black car with the exact same thing.

WTF is that? It looks like an attempt to make a Gen II into the GenIII GTS concept car - looks good, but why?
