It's all about temperature, surface area and residence time. Cats have to be hot enough for the substrate to catalyze the mixture of gasses flowing across it. If the substrate density is too low (too free flowing) your exhaust will not be scrubbed sufficiently.

How long have you had them? Over time, the high-flow cats seem to be less effective, at least from the increased fuel smell in the cockpit. No real evidence, though....

Also, I think you have justification to get a full-refund on those cats with proof/printout of the failed emissions test. Or at least replacements.

did you drive the car long before you went in for the test? I live in ontario too and am subject to this shit as well.

a 1/4 tank of 94 octane plus a litre of gasline antifreeze is your friend. That shit burns clean. Helps me pass everytime.

I have them, I passed no problem. Although, my Leak Detection Pump had failed and I never noticed any code. The car was running rich I think and I failed the first time through. Had the dealer scan for any set codes - they found the LD Pump failure, replaced it, and it sailed on through on 91 California ass gas.

Craig, the car was very warm before the test, I made sure of that. Only 94 Sunoco goes in my fuel tank the way it should be.As far as a refund that's a joke living hundred's of miles away in a different country equals a big pain in the ass.Maybe I should be dealing with Mike in Guelph to be safe next time he's in the same country and 2 hour's away.

I passed w/ headers, T&D's hi flo cats and crappy 91 California gas on my 94 RT. I heard that adding a quart of rubbing alcohol to 1/4 tank of gas will help you pass emissions. Anyone here confirm or raise the BS flag?

I plan on passing this coming March. If I don't pass it the first time, I'll have one of my VEC2 cards reprogrammed to be fucked up enough so I can pass and then I'll raise my hood and put the good VEC2 card back in and drive away for 2 years and $19.50 poorer.

I wish I lived in a onehorse town.
