8 Second Viper

It seems to me that I saw a thread on this at one time but I can't seem to find it.

One of the members at our site sent me a pm yesterday. His question was an interesting one. He asked me "if we put the best driver in our forum in my Z or one of the LPE 427 TT's on our site, up against the fastest Viper at the Alley with the best driver over here, who would win".(he was referring to the 1/4 mile)

Before someone takes this as a challenge or an attempt to start a big Z06 vs Viper thing, please understand that is not my intent.

His question is strictly hypothetical and that is the way I treated it. My answer was "I just don't know". I figure that my Z and the TT's are capable of high to low 9's with a very good driver and good conditions and from what I've read it appears that Hennessey's Vipers have done similar times.

That brings me to my original question.....has a Viper broke into the 8's yet. (I'm talking about a Viper that is still street legal, except california).

I realize that with your engines and turbo's or S/C it is possible, just didn't know if it had been done yet.

Thanks, in advance, for your responses.

Sir Hiss runs mid 7s. Street legal, A/C, I've cruised the streets of Tampa/Clearwater with him many times.

But it's a V8.

Still cool to follow behind a fully caged Viper with a parachute and wheelies on the street. LOL
The first true Viper (with V10 block) in the 8's will be the Hennessey TT car.

At the recent V10 Nationals he ran a 9.28 and was hitting the rev limiter. A few adjustment and more track time and the car will hit the 8's soon. /images/graemlins/gr_driving3.gif

I think the car is putting down around 1100 rwhp - so it definately has the power. :burn:

Thanks for the input, guys. I 'preciate it!
Hey Mike, Enzo Who here, how's it going? I should be getting my car back in the next couple weeks. How have you been? I do not know how fast my car will be in the 1/4 with 900+ RWHP. I do know that the Vipers have traction problems to go nines with the independent rear end. Can you tell me if the 8.95 LPE TT Vette had an independent rear end? That car hooked like a mother and was gone! I will PM you when I get the beast back. Take care. Paolo
Mike, I love my Viper but because of the suspension they just don't perform on the strip as good as other cars.

Heads up with equivalent hp and driver I think the vette would take my car.

I was at the V10 Nats and there were some impressive Vipers with big hp #'s, but the time slips did not reflect (IMO) the hp the cars had.

The LPE 427TT with less hp has run as quick as what the TT Viper ran at the V10 event, but with less hp. Just the nature of the beast I guess.

I had a C5 and enjoyed it, but I will be sticking with the Viper. Maybe one day someone will configure a suspension setup that will get the et's the Viper is capable of based on the hp it produces.

Hey Paolo, long time no see, buddy. How ya been.
I've been waiting to hear how your beastie turned out! Be sure and let me know. I think it is gonna be absolutely 'Badass'!!!!!!!!!!!

I was told the 8.95 Vette run was with a solid rear end and an auto tranny, but I'm not sure how reliable the guy who told me is.
Looking forward to hearing from you, bro!

Dawg, thanks for your thoughts. This subject will probably continue to be hypothetical until we eventually see a couple of the big guns line up next to each other. That's a run I would pay to see.
Thanks again!
