It must only weigh about 1500lbs to run mid 7's with only "630" hp.

Something's not right.

Still doesn’t seem possible, I’m not a drag racer but I do watch a lot and doesn’t seem possible with that power and at the weight that car has to be at...

It’s also worth noting that the NHRA power ratings for these factory racers are typically off. Previous generation Cobra Jets, COPOs, and Drag Packs had ratings of ~450bhp and ran 8s/9s.

You're not taking wrinkle wall slicks with a bead lock rim into the equation...
That has a small effect on performance relative to the numbers we are talking. However, the math still doesn't work out. I've been in drag racing for many years and my last race car weighed 3150 with me in it and it took nearly 900hp to get into the 8's through a 'Glide.

To run 7's that car would have to weigh 3200lbs and make 1400-ish. If we know how much boost they are running, that would allow us to really figure out the true hp of the engine and that would tell us an accurate weight estimate.

So, as WDW stated, they are fudging the numbers, severely.

In factory stock showdown they can't go faster than 7.50. The ford just got hit for going too fast, NHRA penalized them. Most of the others are running 7.80's right now. That's where NHRA wants to keep them.

If the cars are all basically the same and running auto transmissions, where is the sport in the whole thing? In the old days you've have to kill the launch and make all the shifts in order to win. Now, it sounds more like a video game, but with real consequences if you crash:confused:

Trying to put the power they're putting down to the tires they have, is ungodly difficult. It's just a different type of difficult.

Dad was the first person to win pro stock at Indy in 1970. My dad only drove Hemi 4 speed race cars. We have 2 of them up here at Indy this weekend showing them off. Trust me, dad gives them hell all the time about not having real 4 speeds in them

Weight transfer has a lot to do with it.If you can knock a tenth off your 60 foot time, you can knock up to 3 tenths off your 1/4 time.
