300 Mile Road Trip in SRT10

I just back from a 300 mile quick trip to Austin and back in a 2003 SRT10. I must say that this short trip gives me a new perspective on the SRT10.

It really is an easy car to cover a lot of miles quickly and safely. I cruised between 80 - 110 the whole way along with a few blasts to 150-160. The car powered thru fast sweeper turns at WOT at 110 mph with great confidence. The HID lights were as good as it gets for night driving - the high beams are almost too bright which is great. The brakes were always there in case a critter or drunk wandered into MY highway. The seating position was very comfortable.

Overall, I just wanted to pass these thoughts along. This car takes a lot of knocks due to its less agressive S2000-amaro styling. But when you are driving it, it does an impressive job of getting you where you want to go very fast.

I finally found an SRT that I like to drive (its got a few more rw hp). /images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Hard top still looks like an s2000. If the coupe that comes out looks anything like the competition coupe, the best of both worlds will be available. The looks and the refinement. Thats the coupe I am talking about. I still hate the looks of the SRT, hard top or not.
how can you say the CC looks that much different than the SRT? i know there are racing body panels on the CC, but if you drove down the street with that, you would be rice. i LOVE the CC, but not for a car to cruise around town in. the hardtop for the SRT looks good dont get me wrong, but it seems that no matter what you do, the SRT will never look like the GTS!

go to the VCA and search "SRT-10 hardtop" you will see what I am talking about
Biff Brown's hard top, like his attitude, is butt ugly. What the fuck was he thinking? Now, if he would re-do the trunk to extend out the glass over the farther toward the back, then it might look GTS-ish. Or he could do a truncated back glass, like a TR7 or kind of like the R/T, that could look good and still stay within the lines. But what he did does not work.
I too would prefer a GTS Coupe version of the Gen 3.

Behind the wheel of an SRT with ~600 rw hp and ~600 rw torque (thru cats), you tend not to get hung up on looks when you are slamming thru the gears.

Anybody want to see this car at the Austin gathering next week? We will get more power out of it once the tuning is finished, but right now it is MOST IMPRESSIVE to drive / ride in.

Let me know.

John, what's going on in Austin next week?
Phil,

A bunch of us from this sight are getting together in Austin this weekend for a dyno day at Maxwell Dodge, a car show, cruise and carting on Sunday. Look at the top of the "Anything Goes" section of this board for details.

Watch out, you may be getting a threatening e-mail from the Biffster just like I did when I critiqued him. /images/graemlins/ar15firing.gif

Anybody want to see this car at the Austin gathering next week? YUP!!! , Bring it and a TT if you can.
Our Venom 650R SRT10 will be in Austin for the dyno test on Sat. am. This same car ran 10.76 @ 127 mph on stock Michelin Pilot runflats today. It ran a 10.44 @ 133.5 mph on ET Streets with a worn clutch and a 1.6x 60 ft. The car has catalysts, cold AC and even had a full tank of gas when it laid down the numbers. More on all that soon,
