Is a Z4 really different enough from a Z8 to make it worth all the trouble?

a) a lot lighter
b) more than 100K cheaper
c) makes for an awesome sleeper

so they did scrap the Z8. Was it 1 or 2 year production? Do you know if this was the plan all along or was it due to low sales?


I also agree the Z4 will fly with that little v8 stuffed in there.

The Z8 production is over, but Alpina is still producing the car, but with an automatic tranny and 20" wheels.

The V8 Z4 is cool, and it looks nice. But from the specs on that website link it's not any faster than the Z8, costs more than a low mileage used Z8 does, and would only retain a fraction of the value over time.

But it's a cool curiosity, and would be a fun sleeper, blowing off unsuspecting 911 Carreras (if not really being a threat to a Viper).

Thats just awesome! To me the Z4 is one of the nicest cars to come out recently. I know a lot of people who just think its UGLY. Its one of those cars, you either love it or you hate it. I see a few around here and they always catch my eyes. The one in the article is just beautiful. I like the body kit, but I dont care for the exhaust to much. Those rims look really good on there though. They would probably look even better if the lips were polished or the whole rim was chromed. To me, one of the nicest features of the Z4 is the interior. Dont know how many of you hgave sat in one, but the interior is VERY soft and plush. The steering wheel is quite small and feels meaty. To me it beats the old Z3 hands down. I'd buy one just to cruise around in and Im not even a big convertible fan.

The Z4 is interesting, and different, but BMW badly needs a factory M/Z4 to follow in the M-Roadster's footsteps. Just using the M3's 333HP engine would be fine. Although I little more power wouldn't hurt.
