With only 2,900 miles on my RT/10, should I pull the rotors and cut before installing the greens and where is the best online site for ordering the greens?

You do need to scuff them with sandpaper.....I would not turn them. For the greens you need to call JonB @ www.partsrack.com Remember, the year matters /images/graemlins/smiles

Only turn the rotors if they need it... Why? Because the less metal there is the quicker the rotors will heat/overheat causing possible warpage and decreased performance. Take a dime and scuff it on some cement several times. Hot, ain't it. Now do it with a quarter. Takes a lot longer to heat. Same concept, to a lesser extreme.

Does it wheel wobble when you hit the brakes? If yes goto 1. If no goto 2.


1.)Resurface rotors.

2.)Just put the pads on.

Never just put pads on when going to EBC greens. You'll be the one whining here in a month why they squeak.

Buy the 3M Brake resurfacing kit. A little rubber disc that hooks up to a drill and has green pads that scuff the rotors in a circular pattern. Works easy and brakes in pads perfect.

If you are going to take the time to do this yourself, buy something that makes your life easy.

Ditto on scuffing surface. If you don't you will have squeel & will be redoing it again in a few days. Did it, had to redo it...

The idea here is not if he needs his rotors turned due to wear or warpage, it is due to the fact that they have pad material on them other than what he will be installing.

If the rotors are infact not warped, they will only need a few .000's taken off to remove the old pad material. A few .000 is no biggie at all no matter how you look at it.

At the very least do the 3M kit to remove the old pad material.

The scuffing I agree with, as this removes miniscule amounts of material and gets rid of old brake compound. The turning I do not, unless the rotors are 'out-of-round'.

I'm also thinking about doing the greens for poser reasons. I'm sick of the squeal each time I have to stop in traffic for daily driving.

Should I replace all 4 stock brakes, or will the problem be alleviated if I only do the fronts?

Replace all 4 and order the 3M kit.
Buy VHT1500 black spray paint, tape off the pad, spray the green black. Otherwise, they are ugly on the Viper.

I've only seen it online...I heard it's available through Snap-On. It's more of a professional kit. It's about $30.

EBC greens are the sorriest excuse for a brake pad ......yes they have less dust.....but horrible braking qualities. I had them on for a while and took them off....I was worried about getting in accident if I had to do a panic stop.

Cudaman is right. Keep distance between you and the car ahead of you if you run EBC.

Thanks for the tips. I won't be installing EBC's knowing they are potentially dangerous. Is there no other alternatives to a good brake that doesn't squeal so bad? I don't care about dust, its the horrendous squeal when the roof is off on a Sunday drive that gets to me /images/graemlins/sad

BTW, Cudaman congrats on the 9 second run bud! Makin us Florida boys proud :thumb:

I have them & unless you are dragging from light to light & an old lady walks in front of you they are fine. I can shut down from 140 pretty dam quick. I even forgot they were on & ran them around texas world speedway at VOI8 for 12 laps. There are MANY viper owners with greens on. If you are a street racer, then you might want to look at a better pad.

Nope, not really racin (yet), just basically a daily driver, or a weekend driver.. me and the blonde cruisin town gettin coffee and bagels kinda thing. Occasionally embarrass some punk in a mustang but nothing special. If I were to track it I'd just change the pads out b4 hand. At least the fronts. But good to know not everone having bad results with these.

The stock brakes (at least for me) seem only good when I need to basically stand on them for those times when the old giezer gets in my way, but for normal stop and go traffic they aren't exactly making me have an effortless stop (like my equally weighted Firehawk or the Bimmer). Could be air in my lines though, I haven't checked yet...

Cudaman, You are being rather tough on the EBC's. They're no track pad for sure (try the reds or yellows or whatever appropriate) but many many people have them on the street and they are great for everyday driving. No way I would hang out on someone's bumper but they are OK. No squeak and dust too as long as you prep the pads like with the 3m kit.
