I it unusual to be able to take a stock rt10 (barring smooth tubes and K and N's) to 180 mph? I've heard of speeds slower and the car topping out. I let off the pedal at that speed and was still pulling. How fast have others taken their stock beasts.

This person will resemble me and will resemble my voice almost perfectly /images/graemlins/supergrin.gif but it CERTAINLY won't be me. I just mounted my viperinnovations cam mount. i thought this speed was a bit high for a stock monster. However, it is a yellow one and I hear they're faster...Just kidding of course, don't want to start that thread all over again. I will be safe, yes. I usually only do that type of speed in the rain, without a seatbelt or properly functioning wipers, through a school zone crosswalk, at night, with a hard wind, after a bad caffeine rush.....so don't worry about me. /images/graemlins/bootyshake.gif

I have a stock gen1 and with the hard top on I have seen an indicated 180. I am not sure how accurate the speedo is. It is my understanding that the error can increase with speed. I think that the stock gen 1s are good to about 165-168ish on the big end so a 10ish% error is not uncommon.

only took it to 140-145 so far. It took no time to get to that speed. I just ran out of highway to go any faster.

I know of a certain red stock Gen2 RT/10 in Tampa which has seen 175+.... with the soft top.

I think the last time everyone compared top-end notes on stock cars, the best GPS-verified speed was 186 in a GTS.

Bah. I know it's got more in it than that.

I had a mostly stock 96 GTS that I drove with Larry Macedo as my navigator in the 1998 Elko Twin 50 open road race. 52 miles up the hwy and 48 miles on the return back the same road. The road is pretty twisty with a lot of elevation changes and cresting blind hills where you dont know which way the road is going to go.

We averaged 166 mph for the first 52 mile section. We ate lunch and fueled up the car between runs (Larry smoked a pack of cigarettes in about a half hr), then we saddled up for the run back. Feeling a bit more confident in seeing the road, etc., we pretty much flat footed the car for the last 48 miles. We averaged 177 mph for the last 48 miles and were never clocked above 185 mph. We got 2nd place overall in the race with a 171 mph avg speed for the 100 miles.

Ignorance is bliss, looking back at the danger we faced in a stock Viper that only had 5-point harnesses, I would not do that again. But it is fun to say we did it now.

170 and some change in my stock RT/10. Took a long time after 160 to get it to inch up farther (or perhaps my brain was just racing that fast).

Only done that once, done 150 or so frequently....
