18\" Kumho Question

New tires for the snake are on my xmas list and I'm thinking seriously of going with Kumhos, as the grip per dollar rating is good.

I did some checking on TireRack and it looks like the Ectsa V700 is the line available in 18" in both 285/30 and 335/30.
Is this what folks have gone with? Also looks like I should have them shaved - just in case they see a track day :nod:

I'm not sure how available that size is... you should call and check ASAP. If they have it, buy it! Last I checked, they weren't in stock.

Be prepared to 3M the heck out of your sidesills. The V700's kick up a TON of debris. I used to run them for autox on my Supra, and tried them on the street... horrible wet traction (and I mean horrible traction at 20 mph). So, be sure that you'll never get caught in the rain!

Both these sizes are available in the UK, also the 305/30 18 for the front. I have them all, but wont use them until next season, so cant give any user report yet.

They really chuck it up, a lot like a sticky race tire. I will be covering part of my sill and rear panels with 3M tape

Buddy of mine runs them on his modded mustang and has
had good luck.Tire spin is about the same as a set of
pilots but tread wear is really good.

You sure you're talking about the same Kumhos? This is a competition tire that is a hell of a lot stickier than a Pilot and has a tread wear rating of 50 (Pilots are 220). No one would run them if they spun anywhere near as much as Pilots, and they darn sure don't last as long.

Yeah, Ripper02 is talking about the performance street tire Kumho makes. The Ectsa V700 is a super sticky comp. tire and wears about half as long as the Pilot (at best). They stick like crazy, and give much better road feel/steering feedback than the Pilots.

I have run the Kumho's and in my opinion they do not have that much more stick than a pilot in straight line. I can spin them in any gear. It is quite different on a prepped track. On the other hand, they stick like mad in the corners. As far as the damage done, if you use them on the street you will have to get the sills repainted. It looks like they are shot-blasted after a short time.

yes, 285 are fronts and the 335 are the rears. You sure don't want 285's or 335's all the way around.....

Thanks to all who posted. Mostly I wanted to check if it was the Ecsta v700 line, or a different line (like the victoracers). Other options would be Pilot Sport Cups in 295/345, and I think Toyo RA1s too but they may not come that wide. The new hoosiers are steel belted - that's always an option but they would blast the sills as well.

Ah, decisions, decisions. The Sport Cups look real nice but they're pricey.
