I am looking at buying a Viper and need to know what to look out for.

Last year I bought a 2005 Vette. Gorgeous sunset orange with removable top. Have loved it since I got it... but the thing is... the viper has always been the dream. I often think I should have skipped the vette (corvette was much cheaper to buy and repair) and went straight for the viper(dream status but more costly). But everyone tells me the 2005 vette will be better in every area over the 2nd gen viper and I would regret it once the dream wore off. I don't need numbers as I can see those if I want... my question is has anyone else gone through this and what was your experience?

thanks for reading!

It would be a good idea to drive a Gen 2 if you like your Vette. I have both (97 GTS, 08 Z06) and they are night and day different. A Viper is not for everyone, I love my Viper and truly enjoy it. The Vette is far more practical. Things to be careful of are well documented here so search a little and have a PPI done by someone qualified before purchase, these are old cars and many unexpected things break on old cars, the problem with a Gen 2 is the increasing lack of available service parts. Try to buy a windshield or cam/crank sensor. How about a front clip/hood? Oil pump?

I had one c4 and three c6 corvettes before getting a viper. A manual z51 c6 corvette is better pretty much in every way when compared to a 2nd gen viper, but i still ended up with the 2nd gen viper. A bit different in actual experience.
It is a lot closer to my ls swapped 3rd gen f body than to a c5 or c6 corvette. Door opening and trunk closer to a c4 corvette. Now if I could get the doors to align correctly, would be a lot happier. Either the door panel not happy in the opening or the door it self, and not much of a way to make everything line up at the same time.
