First of all, the viper should cost more than a vette just because it is a viper. But to price it significantly more without a run-away performance is just ridiculous. These days, performance cars are engineered very well and it is difficult to really stand out unless there is a power adder like force induction.

When the gen 2 it first came out, it was raw, unique, dominating, and a force to be reckoned with. The current GTSR has the same attitude that the gen 2 had when it first came out. I would gladly pay the current price if it looked and performed like the GTSR minus all the carbon pieces, etc. I don’t need Italian seats, fancy gauges or interior. Put some plastic pieces in the interior to cut cost down and throw in a couple of carbon pieces here and there to make people feel like they’re in an exotic. Sure there will always be haters that will comment on the quality of the car, but as long as the car performs like a champ, it doesn’t matter. Can’t please everyone. The car needs to have 700+, CC brakes, Gen 5 TA suspension, and an unlocked computer.

As the Gen 5 sits right now, you really have to talk about price for the performance. There is no way around it. To get the performance and notoriety, you have to have 700+, TA suspension, brakes, and an unlocked computer. Get rid of some of the fancy interior if you must- digital gauge, seats, etc. to keep the price reasonable. The higher price can reflect performance.

THE VIPER BUILT ITS REP ON POWER AND PERFORMANCE

Unlock ECU, Some sort of F/I (at least make it an option), and a boost friendly forged rotating assembly, upgraded breaks and better shocks would be nice as well.

Actually I would think it is quite hard. They would need to build new software and possibly hardware (I'm told they don't even own the rights to the PCM let alone the software). Then they would likely need to re-certify the engine for emissions.

Well then the Gen V would be a lost cause. For me anyway. If I get another Gen 4, it will be a 2010 and I will look at options of Pectal, AEM or Megasquirt.

I still don't like the front of the car and they should of pushed the design of the car further. There's that one viper concept that I thought was bad ass..

I agree it needed more power. open ECU, CC-brakes and even thought the interior is nicer it just doesn't fit to what the soul of the car is.. I'm not sure what the answer is for the design but it's a little off for me sitting in one.

Do you really think that the ECU will be opened ? If they have not done this yet to me the writing is on the wall. (Days are Numbered) The Viper Owners wanted to go racing again, so this is where the advertising dollars went. We all wanted to see the Viper Reclaim Lemans. So that leaves very limited dollars for marketing. If all current Vipers in process of being built or already built go to prefix for an ACR Package would the Viper sell any better? Or have we become spoiled with too many choices ?

I'm easy to please. Overall the car looks great inside and out, but that fugly e-brake handle literally ruins the car for me. I don't know if it's the look or the location or both, but it makes the interior look cheap. I walked into the dealer and the car looked awesome, and the interior looks good as you walk up to it. Peek inside and it looks like a dog shit on the console. Integrate it into the side of the console or something other than where it's at now.

Pretty difficult to understand why the first thing that would get buyers interested in a hurry - lower price - is the only thing you don't want to discuss. I hate to throw the words arrogance or stupidity too far out there, but they do apply to the concept of trying to figure out why what appears to be an overpriced car, is not selling to expectations.

Unlock the ECU or make the front grille different? Sure, you'll get some buyers that have been meh.

Knock $20 or $30K off the price? I'll buy one last Tuesday and there will be a line behind me.

I wonder what the % of orders is right now for SRT models vs GTS? GTS cars flooded the markets because of every dumbass dealer thinking they could sell 150k + markups cars, which ends up nobody wanted, even as their discounting them. And I heard if you were trying to order SRT models the dealers were trying to push you aggressively to take the GTS off the lot or place an order for the GTS instead, so wonder how many people that turned off from ordering period?

SRT is priced well, basically similar as before but you are getting a lot of nice changes, GTS pricing is outta wack period, and the shocks are light years behind GMs MRC system. So anybody know how the SRT is moving, or orders for it are?

I think too much damage has been done by the marketing blunders at SRT that led to scathing reviews almost everywhere from them sending in cars put together like kit cars. I would think the SRT would be moving well by now, but just have to wonder how much marketing put a neg perception in peoples eyes that pry wanted to buy one, and that you can't test drive it, and have a better chance at finding a needle in a haystack then actually being allowed to sit in one.

Having the different models was dumb, should of stuck with SRT model, and then made anything extra with the GTS as options for those that want it, want nicer leather get it, want the hood get it, want the dated shocks get them etc. But then again dealers pry would of ordered SRT models with every option then giving the same flooded market of priced cars that we have now

For me - Price. It's way too expensive for what you get. I'd rather pick up a low-mile GenIV with basically the same performance.

Mark J,

Did you get the answers or input that you were looking for? If yes, press one... err, if yes, what will this input go towards in terms of feedback to SRT? Any idea? No wrong answers here.

Thanks,

The feedback from all the forums has been good and the people that would want to know are glad for the contributions you have all given even the price point ones. The reason I wanted to leave price out was that lowering the price all the sudden if it were even possible would surely cause worse problems because of all the people that have already purchased the Viper. In the same breath if they stripped away all the optional equipment and you were left again with a bare bones car with no upgrades on the interior then that would become a negative also for some right?

Bottom line, I doubt they have enough profit in the Viper to give us everything that is cool about the new car at the price you think it should be. I would love to be able to afford another Viper and my only hope is that they are around long enough for me to be able to buy a nice used GenV someday. Thank you all for the insight, it may not get everything changed, but at least there is a pinpointed location for them to read your opinions.

More power.

I am ready to buy, but will likely hold out for the fast version of the C7, strictly because I don't want my neighbor with a ZR1, pulley and tune to kick my ass. I can hold him off with my piece of shit Mustang, but why pay the 120K+ asking price for something that, as gorgeous as I think it is; only gives me the bragging rights of having a better interior?

An ACR that will kick the Z07's ass on a road course.

We've seen it before, people.

RT/10 to GTS, Gen 3 vert to coupe, Gen 4 to ACR. Every Gen 3 hater swoons over the Gen 4 ACR, despite it's chastity-belted ECU.

So, it will need aero, suspension, brakes, and tires.
