Summary: They think the ZR1 is an overall "quicker" car then the new SRT Viper, The Ford Atlas is a cool truck, the 5 series/Camaro is heavy as fuck, and the new Lexus IS is ugly..... Thats all I got out of the video lol

Re: ZR1 & Viper Controversy video

MT debating cars is like hearing Troy Aiken in the booth while the cowboys are playing. Regardless the gen V sucks SRT knows its a bust and poor Ralph won't admit it failed but only make excuses.

Tire thing is an obvious issue, no comparison there, ZR1 comes with way better tires and kudus to GM for that and shame on SRT for slacking there. But also it seems the suspension is just not sorted, this and other videos it just looks like the driver is bouncing and vibrating around like crazy on track and steering wheel is twitching like nutz, then look at Randy in the ZR1, pretty smooth. Drivers have said the race setting is far too stiff for track use, and even the comfort setting is stiffer then before so it's rougher even on the street.

How could SRT not know or feel there was an issue with the suspension not sorted? Obviously none of us have driven the car yet, but the ones that have like Randy have made comments regarding that.

If there's one thing GM excelled at, the MRC suspension. Whether it's the Vette, or CTS-V etc, it just fuckin rocks for comfort and aggressive driving, no better "combo" then right there.

VE,

I respect your opinion and wonder what Ralph and co. are thinking now. Who at SRT mapped out the suspension and if there is no change to be made perhaps the tire selection should be reconsidered. With a wider track front, perhaps they were using the 2010's suspension settings? I don't know but I'd sure like to find out.

V should have come with 700 HP. That is what I belive we were all thinking and wanting. No matter what SRT does, it will never compare to the affect that the 96 GTS had on people. Times have changed and we cannot go back in time. With that being said, I am going to have to wait until 2015 to see whats in store.

As a Viper owner, and not an avid track guy, I am absolutely blown away by this new SRT-10; the looks are supermodel stunning, the interior is amazing and the 640 horsepower is huge for a street car. My GTS is brutal and my SRT10 vert attracts the ladies, but the new Viper is both.

Chevy is the absolute best thing since sliced bread and in their view, why have any other performance car when you could have a "Zed R1" as Mr. Clarkson likes to put it. After watching that, I'm now thoroughly convinced without doubt that MT is on the GM payroll... ridiculous give the Viper it's due credit.

V4C,

Add Car & Driver to that list. The bias is so thick you can tell that these amateur rags are more interested in pushing controversy instead of content.

That being the case, I'd sooner surf Jalopnik.com for that kind of silliness.

Jay K.

Ps. If I wanted to read a respectable magazine, I'd read Automobile or Road & Track.

See what I mean... Your post is exactly the response they're looking for from viewers when it comes to these comparison test. It's not just with these cars either, magazines are bias, sometimes blatantly about which car they favor. The fact that they spend what seems to be the majority of the video praising and paying utter homage to GM and the Vette easily proves that. I'm not saying the Viper is perfect and they bring up a good point about the Vette being well sorted in production vs the Viper being a preproduction first run model SRT sent for testing. I'm sure with better tires and looking into their claimed "oversteer/understeer" issue the Viper would be able to match or edge out the Z. I will say that SRT dropped the ball by not having more powerin the V, guess the want new owners hitting up VPA for future mods....

Numbers don't lie, I am by no mean a vette fan hence I own a viper. Hands down if I had the option I'd take the new Viper, Just not sure what the huge debate is all about This has to be the 5th time this has come up on the alley. Yes the vette is a little quicker than the Viper. Its still just another vette.

Some of us have looked at the specs on the new Gen V and was worried about the matchup against the competition. WE KNEW THAT WE WERE IN TROUBLE.

SRT should've had their shit together, they had plenty of time to do it.
They damn well knew what the 2 year to current competition was....and they dropped the ball and targeted the "BLING THING" Crowd.
That is not what the original Vision of the the Viper.
The Legacy has been tarnished at this point!!!!

Andy,

I completely disagree with you. The fact that the program was completed without any knowledge from upper management is a success in it's own right. Performance wise I believe that the magazine is so slanted toward Chevrolet that there was no possible way that the new Viper was going to beat the Corvette.

As a follow-up car and driver posted a photo of the newly designed Viper interior about the size of a postage stamp. They and motor trend are still smarting from the fact that SRT gave them the brushoff to go with Automobile magazine & Road and Track. .
